New Centre Party

A group of disaffected Labour MPs is preparing to quit the party and form a breakaway movement on the political centre ground amid growing discontent with Jeremy Corbynís leadership on Brexit and other key issues including immigration, foreign policy and antisemitism.

From that Tory rag the Guardian no less.

Oh, wait a minute, did I just say say the Guardian?

Where do they get the finance and support from though?

Re: New Centre Party

I remember what happened the last time. The 'Gang of Four' split to form the SDP - where are they now? Perhaps it will be different, but Labour voters of old are notoriously tribal about voting, so they are gambling on taking the "tribe" with them at the ballot box.

I will be interested to see who jumps ship. Will it be the ones who are facing de-selection, or losing their seat under new boundary changes that are coming in before the next election? Until the system changes to Proportional Representation small parties are unable to get traction.

New Labour veterans and anti Corbynista's certainly found a reliable ally in the Guardian's political editor Toby Helms..... this ex Torygraph Journo's move to the Guardian certainly had a part in the swing away from the current leadership of the Labour Party and towards the new Labour types , as this is not Helms first divisive partisan piece on the current leadership, or the highlighting of supposed splits, nor the supposed dislike of Corbyn's leadership, and these alleged antisemitism claims . His multiple sources to stir the rumours of a split may have included people close to home ....

Helms own wife and part of this power couple of Merrick and Helm is "Spoon" founder Jane Merrick who herself quit the Corbynista Labour Party over alleged antisemitism and dislike of Corbyn's leadership and Helms own sister is close friends of Blair with her husband being the Blair's ex chief of staff Jonathan Powell . I am sure this cosy dinner party set with their known contacts, certainly no how to stir the pot.............. I wouldn't hold your breath over any split soon though .....

I have posted before, The Guardian are not fans of Corbyn, they are still very much New Labour, a stance that they dont tend to abuse too much, unlike the Mail and their rag top friends. The reported split ? wishes and hopes I reckon, same as the definite party split that was gonna happen when JC was re elected as leader, Blair's babes still sulking on the back benches.

Re: New Centre Party

I don't believe it will happen to be honest, when the last lot stepped down from the shadow cabinet it was rumoured they would split but as far as I recall they had no real means of funding.

If they had took a central party route a year a go and went to form a remain group they may have got short term funding but that would not have given longevity.

March 29th is approaching fast, so possibly too little too late.

The only hope for a split would be if they could rally the old guard, but they would need some union backing I think to really succeed.

If it were to happen perhaps it should be monikered as " The Self Centred Party "

For certain , not a true working class background for any of them ., which is tragic considering Berger's family heritage in the working Labour Party roots .

Im sure that only the Tory party would gain by a split so it will be promoted by the Tory press as a "Daily Mail " fact in the hope of fanning an ember into flame, odd cos , according to our right wing posters, the dreaded Corbyn was no threat.
Remember how they crowed when he was elected leader ? seems oh so quiet these days

Those who find Corbyn to be a threat and a danger are tagged as closet Tories or ultra right wing or whatever, it's bit of a stretch to tag the Guardian as Tory so excuses have to be found.

It might just be that responsible, informed people see him for what he really is and that includes newspaper editors. I wonder if he will be suing Tom Bowers any time soon.

Corbyn has only one more election in him he will then be replaced by the very effective Emily Thornbury
