The Age of Stupid 2019

OK a movie but…

“This ambitious documentary/drama/animation hybrid stars Pete Postlethwaite as an archivist in the devastated world of the future, asking the question: "Why didn't we stop climate change when we still had the chance?" He looks back on footage of real people around the world in the years leading up to 2015 before runaway climate change took place...

Re: Climate Change

"Greta Thunberg appeals for help after travelling 'the wrong way'.
The annual COP25 meeting has been moved from Chile to Madrid due to violent protests in the South American country."

I’m so sorry I’ll not be able to visit South and Central America this time, I was so looking forward to this. But this is of course not about me, my experiences or where I wish to travel. We’re in a climate and ecological emergency.
I send my support to the people in Chile.
— Greta Thunberg (@GretaThunberg) November 1, 2019"

https://news.sky.com/story/greta-thu...g-way-11851305

Brazil pulled out of the COP 25 conference last year, so Chile stepped up to the plate. But what the article fails to explain is why Chile has now also withdrawn. Chile is in the grip of serious and widespread strikes and riots. Over 20 people have been killed and many thousands have been injured due to heavy handed military police indiscriminately attacking peaceful protestors. It has not been given prominence in the MSM it deserves. The reasons for these protests? The MSM give many reasons, but a common one is increase in Metro prices, but never investigate the cause of the increases.

"Expensive Climate Policies Sparked Chile Riots, Just Like France’s Yellow Vest Protests. The Chilean government and the legacy media blamed the fare hikes on rising oil prices. But that isn’t true.

Santiago Metro fares are rising, amid falling oil and gasoline prices, because government officials in 2018 traded out most of the Metro’s energy sources to wind and solar power from conventional sources. The Chilean government also hit the portion of conventional power that remains with new carbon dioxide taxes.

As a result, Chileans are now burdened by higher Metro fares reflecting unnecessary energy price increases. As Chileans protest, climate activists and their media allies want people to believe oil is to blame, rather than government climate programs that raise energy prices and impoverish people."

https://www.theepochtimes.com/expens...e_3127717.html

It's O.K.for politicians and Hollywood celebrities to lecture how people should and should not run their lives and accept tax/price hacks, but it never applies to them. It is the likes of those very people that are causing these riots.

But back to Greta. Tony Heller has the handle on this one lol.

But it's just not Greta having problems. Another ship of fools are going to have to rethink their strategy. 36 young European campaigners are on board the Regina Maris sailboat, which left Amsterdam on 2 October heading to Santiago for the conference when the decision to cancel was made.

“Quite a number of people started to cry, including Anuna and Adelaide,” it was reported.

Re: Climate Change

Greta Thunberg is publicising the future her generation will be left to suffer by her profligate forebears , in other words , us .

Sure she makes her way around the world , using carbon credits up and contributing to pollution , but she has us all talking , and also has many folk ( particularly younger ) considering their behaviours .

Were she to sit in her bedroom , chugging out podcasts no one would listen

She is making a huge difference as governments and individuals start developing coping mechanisms .

To many she is a nascent prophet , as her message will affect lives and the ways our descendants have to live , only time will tell .

Her message resonates with her generation , much the same as the " free " hippy movement did in the sixties before big business and politicians snuffed it out .

these youngsters are too savvy , too well connectd and have access to new wave technological backers with the money to make a diffeence .

As Aldous Huxley opined..." Brave New world " things can , must and will change .

Re: Climate Change

She isn't a very good prophet if she never figured out how to get back to Sweden in the first place. Or did she plan on staying in Canada for ever?

Don't forget that the crew of the yacht that took her out there had to fly back to Europe and in addition, a crew had to fly out to bring the boat back. Had she had got a plane in the first place her "carbon footprint" (a ridiculous term) would have been significantly less. The yacht in question by the way, is one of those state-of-the-art carbon tech models that would be impossible to manufacture without fossil fuels.

As the Atlantic will be very stormy this time of year, the only possibility would be for her to travel up to northern Canada and hitch a ride on a dog sled across the North Pole to the northern shore of Russia and make her way to Spain over land. You know, the North Pole that Al Gore and all the other crackpots predicted 10 years ago would no longer exist.

One big problem with that though is the polar bears that would find her a delicacy. Yes, those very same polar bears that are supposed to be dying out but are actually thriving with their numbers showing huge increases. Incidently Susan Crockford, the world authority on this subject, has recently been fired as a professor at the University of Victoria for pointing out this inconvenient fact. But that's what happens when you speak the truth and go against what you are supposed to say these days.

I think the point Rose, is that she has got you talking about it. Think what you like about Greta and her contemporaries, she is out there doing something, we are not.

Great fun Rose , loads of carping but nothing constructive to offer , just a waste of time Rose , the young lady has a lot of living and learning to do , learning , something you gave the heave ho a long time ago it appears .

And the point isn't as much about polar bears as to how the effect of melting ice caps will affect humankind.

Re: Climate Change

Thousands of climate scientists warn of ‘untold suffering’..

wd-paris_climate_change_deal.jpg

"The human race faces “untold suffering due to the climate crisis” unless there are radical reforms to policy, according to a warning from more than 11,000 scientists.

In the statement, published on the 40th anniversary of the first world climate conference, the scientists “declare clearly and unequivocally that planet Earth is facing a climate emergency”.

They add: “To secure a sustainable future, we must change how we live. [This] entails major transformations in the ways our global society functions and interacts with natural ecosystems.

“The climate crisis has arrived and is accelerating faster than most scientists expected. It is more severe than anticipated, threatening natural ecosystems and the fate of humanity.”...

At least the Italian education Ministry has not pasta-buck.
Italy is to become the first country in the world to make sustainability and climate crisis compulsory subjects for schoolchildren.
