Re: Turkey hosts 4.7 million foreigners

"They contribute Turkey’s culture and create added-value,” said Gökçe "

Maybe try and make us feel more welcome then instead of making everything as difficult and expensive for us as possible!

They must surely learn a lesson when theyve lost us both Philip!

Re: Turkey hosts 4.7 million foreigners

In fairness Alison, pretend you are a Turk and then go see what is involved for you to get a UK visa, and the cost, then note not only how difficult it is but all the costs involved.

If you want more fun look up what is involved if you decide to go for ILR (not citizenship), especially the none returnable application fee. (£2,389 that is over 16,000 TL) and compare that with the long term resident permit price foreigners pay here.

Although ILR does let them work in the UK whereas resident permit here does not, but the fee is not returnable so if a Turk is rejected they might be a little bit peeved about it.

I appreciate those points Norman but in fairness it would be more expensive there as the cost of living is so much higher. Its cost me 4000tl in total applying for citizenship, I didnt get that back either. Also you do get much more out of the UK as a foreigner than you do as foreigner in Turkey.
When I mentioned things being as expensive as possible I didnt really mean the cost of permits. I meant more the cost of every day things that we are overcharged for on a daily basis. Also things like the cost of importing a mobile phone. The cost of SGK. 640tl a month for one person and they only reduced the cost of my medication for the first month even though they had diagnosed the problem, it wasnt a pre existing condition. I'm so glad I'm not paying 640tl! I was also told recently at the Alanya Devlet I should not use the Devlet hospitals as they are for Turks and foreigners can afford to use the private hospitals. I cant imagine Turks in the UK being told to use Bupa!
I dont think its always that difficult for Turks in the UK to get permits. My friends fiance went over on an engagement visa. The week before it ran out he applied for an extention, that was granted within a few days and a week later he was working legit at a restaurant. Only a few weeks after that he was treated free of charge for very extensive treatment on the NHS.
...........and another thing while I'm on one lol. When Turks are applying for things in the UK they are treated with respect , given correct information - same rules for everyone - and if they are rejected they are notified and given a reason. Here we are very often not, 5 months after the website says I'm rejected I'm still waiting to be notified and given a reason.
