But surely it is the duty of party members to carry out the democratic will of the people.

If that is the case then it is - or should be - effectively the choice of the electorate.

So of the ten candidates who do you think would be the best choice for PM? (Clue: Your man in the WH reckons BJ 😊 )

Wrong again, its the Conservative party members who pick the leader, that's nothing to do with the will of the people.

Who do I think is the best choice? I'm not bothered myself but if any of the candidates offer leaving the EU on the 31st October & fail to carry it through, a GE will follow IMO.

So Conservative party leaders aren't beholden to the will of the people - seems democracy no longer holds sway

Re: New UK PM

For all the PR slimmed down BJ with the newly cropped hair, it didn't help to disguise no change in his chaotic bumbling style .

He hasn't a clue, seemingly stumbling and joking along at the Press conference ,demonstrating and proving exactly the criticism implied by the Journalist in her question of his terrible chaotic and cavalier attitude towards detail, for someone wanting to be a prospective PM.......

Instead he proved her point by making some cavalier nonsensical joke to stall and cover answering ... hardly instilling confidence of any change of style in his non answers , nor hitting the mark in others, by never answering a direct question ... like that on his drug use....

I confess my ignorance but is it Party members who choose or parliamentary party members ?

TBH Iíve no idea, bit of both is how I read it. The thinning out will continue but will it be that the final two are one remain, one leave.......
If an ardent leaver gets in, it will be a short lived premiership if we donít leave in October.

Re: New UK PM

Boris Johnson bemoaning a non GE elected Prime Minister

https://www.newstatesman.com/politic...don-brown-2007

Writing about the Labour prime minister Gordon Brown, who took over from Tony Blair without an election, Boris Johnson lays into Brown’s lack of “mandate from the British people”. He describes the “transition about as democratically proper as the transition from Claudius to Nero”, calling it a “scandal”, “fraud” and “nothing less than a palace coup”.

Here’s his intro:

“It’s the arrogance. It’s the contempt. That’s what gets me. It’s Gordon Brown’s apparent belief that he can just trample on the democratic will of the British people. It’s at moments like this that I think the political world has gone mad, and I am alone in detecting the gigantic fraud.”

His description of Tony Blair being elected in the last general election, 2005:

“They voted for Anthony Charles Lynton Blair to serve as their leader. They were at no stage invited to vote on whether Gordon Brown should be PM… They voted for Tony, and yet they now get Gordon, and a transition about as democratically proper as the transition from Claudius to Nero. It is a scandal. Why are we all conniving in this stitch-up? This is nothing less than a palace coup… with North Korean servility, the Labour Party has handed power over to the brooding Scottish power-maniac.”

Johnson A complete and utter hypocrite , with zero credibility , with nothing other than his God given right to Lord it over the Hoi Polloi because he went to Eton .

What a shower of shyte he is , a non comedic mountebank , a bumbling Mr Unfunny with zero gravitas

Steve
