These cuts have been clearly necessary to reduce the tax burden on those who pay more. Why should poorer pensioners be subsidised by others ? surely they can pick up a good book.

We'll! I had to read that 3 times to make sure I understood. Many pensioners have very poor eyesight and books can be difficult for them . Many that I've met sadly never pick up a book or other reading material however they do love to listen to tv especially those that have good or reasonable hearing. Tv is actually a lifeline to many pensioners. Like I said on my other post.... bbc can be banned. Or allow people to buy a tv that doesn't support bbc. Then we'll soon see if bbc survives. I think not. Time for the fat cats to pull out and find some other mug.

You need to read it again Shash, just read the bit that explains who needs a licence, this isn't the BBC its the Tories who pulled the funding.

Re: TV licence

Hearing BBC presenters accidentally say “Jeremy C*nt” is worth the license fee alone, confirm viewers

"With the news that the free TV license for over 75s is to be scrapped, regular viewers have confirmed that the fee is worth paying just to hear Jeremy Hunt’s name be regularly mispronounced.

Victoria Derbyshire was the latest BBC presenter to accidentally mispronounce the Foreign Secretary’s name on TV yesterday morning, prompting the clip to be shared on social media and bringing ten seconds of much-needed joy to a nation grown weary on politics and Brexit...

Ah yes. I agree that it was the Tories that pulled the funding. But I don't think government should fund it because it's propping up the bbc's jollies.

Re: TV licence

It's a con, look at the timing, Horrid Gov wants to charge poor pensioners, nice PM hopefulls swear they will retain free ones, it's childlike obvious and all it takes is one press release.

Vote for me, free TV.

Re: TV licence

Manufacturers should make tv which does not have bbc so we don't pay £154.50, sorted.

So, Live TV on ANY Channel ....... Thought it was just BBC channels?

Isn't the idea of Free-To-Air the fact that it's FREE To receive these channels worldwide?
