I am absolutely furious that I will now have to pay to watch and listen to Nigel Farage on the BBC, it was bad enough when it was free....Ken Clarke

Re: TV licence

When we knew we were selling our UK house, we changed our payment method for a tv licence
Instead of paying yearly, we got a card and paid monthly at a local shop , thinking it would be easier when we sold to cancel it and not have to claim some back

When we actually sold , I was waiting for a minor op on my elbows to ease trapped nerves in my fingers, before we came to Turkey, so we moved in with my daughter while I got my appointment
After notifying the tv licence people about this and cancelling my licence, considering I was paying monthly, I was surprised to get a fair sized rebate, i rang them to double check it and they assured me it was ok

SO , if you pay monthly, exactly 1/12th of the yearly fee, how come you get a rebate when cancelling? (nobody at tv licensing knew why)

If the BBC made money by airing adverts that may well work, but how is that supposed to hurt the BBC?

Re: TV licence

The Tory administration which implemented a raft of austerity measures is very disappointed that the BBC isn’t stepping in to pay for all the scrapped benefits.

Over the past decade, the Conservatives have adopted a brutal fiscal policy of austerity. Money-saving measures ranged from the capping of welfare benefits to the removal of free television licences for the elderly.

Tory MPs are now upset that the BBC is refusing to pick up the slack.

“How can the Director General sleep at night?” said Conservative MP Percival Bastard-Wanker.

“Doesn’t he realise that since 2012 the number of children requiring food handouts has more than tripled?

“He has literally billions of pounds to play with and yet all he wants to do is spend it on public service broadcasting as if that’s his job.”

The BBC has a slightly different perspective.

“What a cowardly thing to do,” said a spokesperson. “Cutting benefits and then attempting to deflect the blame onto an institution which has no business acting as a benefits agency.

“The Tories knew full well the BBC couldn’t afford to pay 750m a year for the over 75s without cutting key services – you know, things like BBC Two.

“They knew but they simply didn’t care. They’re quite happy for pensioners to live in poverty as long as they don’t appear to be directly responsible. Just another example of how this government is failing to look after the welfare of its electorate.

“What the hell do they want – the BBC to stop broadcasting completely and just fund child benefit and shortfalls in the NHS?

“Oh, right.”

Re: TV licence

Today , cost of tax relief for higher earners , 10billion a year , Cabinet Minister Liz Truss says it is nothing , we can afford it , we will take it from the " headroom " , no further explanation , no further question from Louise Minchin , wonder if she qualifies for extra dosh ?

No money for over 75 free tv licenses , the country is facing austerity , we cannot afford it.

Hypocritical liars of the first degree , Tory Britain , any excuse to funnel money to the wealthy and impoverish the poor .

Re: TV licence

Millennial diligently saving for flat deposit and to pay for rich old people’s free stuff

millennial saving money
A young millennial has told of how he diligently puts money by every month to both save for a deposit and to pay for rich old people’s free stuff.

For a living, Simon Williams does something incomprehensible with the Internet, and he currently lives in a shared space under an overpass on the A12 because that’s all the ‘property’ his generation can afford.

“I’ve got a little tin here that I put in whatever spare change I have to save for a deposit on a flat,” he explained.

“Small flats here are around sixty squillion pounds, so I should have my deposit ready in about 2,000 years or so.”

However, finance savvy Mr Williams also has a bank account.

He went on, “Well, yes, I have to save about a hundred pounds a week so that rich old people can get a free TV license or bus pass.

“I don’t like leaving that sort of money under a mattress in a room under an underpass on the A12, so I have a savings account for that.

“I mean, if I didn’t do that, there’s a chance that rich old people wouldn’t get back home to their half-a-million pound mansion from the local National Trust in time to watch a lavish BBC documentary about the National Trust.

“Which would be a tragedy, obviously.”

It is understood that, whilst Mr Williams was out working an eleven hour day to pay for rich old people’s free stuff, a rich old person called him and his millennial generation ‘snowflakes’ because they like avocado on toast.
