TV licence

There is a huge backlash of people complaining about the BBC stopping free TV licences for the over 75's

Piers Morgan (like him or not) has said that only last week, D Day veterans were being honoured and now they are being penalised

There are 106 executives who earn more than 160 000 with regular pay rises and there is a huge backlash with 86% of people polled saying revert it back

Re: TV licence

BBC should be thrown to the wolves. With most people using other forms of tv and paying handsomely for it they should not be paying a bbc licence in my opinion. Why can't we have the option to buy a tv without bbc on it or a tv sky for instance package that gives us the option to not have bbc. Particularly as the latter can block any channel It wants to. Bbc spent over 16 million quid last year chasing non payers and I can't even remember the astronomical amount they spent on jollies. If everybody who is gullible enough to buy a licence decided to never buy another one at the end of their licence it would only take one year to finish the bbc off. The bbc in my opinion are parasites mostly living off of poorer people.

We pay for a TV license in the UK despite being in Turkey for a lot of the time.
My gripe is that I can’t access BBC iPlayer on my iPad when I’m in Turkey without a VPN. Even then the BBC block it sometimes.
Sure there must be a way to watch BBC channels from abroad if you log in with your TV license number.

Re: TV licence

The government used to pay this , they hived it off to the BBC in order to escape public censure , then did not fund the BBC in order to cover the 750 million cost .

The BBC should not be criticised in regard to the license , it is the Government that sets the law to enforce compliance , not the BBC .

I like tv that does not get saturated with adverts , many oap's would find 150 a year a lot of money .

The BBC have rights/agreements with the actual producers of programmes and they would be in breach of some of those agreements if the programme was shown worldwide; some actors have agreements where their work can be shown.

A bit like DVD region coding, copyright is given in relation to what rights are paid for, for the BBC to have world rights on its content would be an astronomical figure. Sky also buys rights for where it can show content, it also does not have world rights.

Bill turned 75 this May. Just our luck !!! However, perhaps with all the backlash they will capitulate - hope so !

Let's hope they capitulate, silly idea really. Too many fat cats, overpaid presenters.

BBC is a bloated state institution that has got used to money being shovelled in through the front door - bit like the NHS. Listen to commercial broadcasters talk about overmanning, waste and bureaucracy in BBC in comparison to the rest of the industry. Needs a good shake up.

Easy out...........go fifty fifty, BBC pays half & the government pays the other half.

I can see the sales of boxes that provide Free-To-Air channels increasing.
