Hong Kong

Got a feeling this one is going to turn nasty, was thinking of going in November but might pass on it now.

Re: Hong Kong

More riots over the weekend. Some analysts are wondering if this will be the trigger for China to put troops on the street. The playbook is already written: China foments problems by subversive agents on the streets of HK; initially China stays out of it, but uses diplomatic propaganda to blame The West; China offers help in the form of extra police to support the pro-China HK Govt - which is accepted; Chinese police on the streets, but rioting gets worse; HK Govt requests Chinese troops as peacekeepers, which duly arrive, and never leave; mass arrests, deportations and show trials.

Chinese troops have been stationed in Hong Kong since 1997 just not used yet, although some cynics may think they were the group attacking protesters last week.
It’s off my radar for November now.

I did not know that, but it makes the final phase of my game plan a bit easier to imagine.
Human Rights lot jumping up and down demanding UK intervenes. We don't have a gun boat spare, so that is off the table. Apart from the fact that UK used to be tenants on a long lease, not sure it is anything to do with us.

If I was in UK govt, I would be approaching the HK financial and business sector inviting them to relocate to another offshore tax-haven where we speak the same language.

Re: Hong Kong

Was watching a Hong Kong legislator being interviewed on a tv channel last night.

The reporter said to her that 'the demonstrators are throwing metal bar, bricks and dropping bricks from overpasses on to the police'.

The legislators response......'the police are carrying deadly weapons'.

Now I'm no expert but metal bars and bricks are deadly, especially when dropped from a height.
Justifying the demonstrators use of them is a ridiculous thing for a legislator to say.
