Re: Global warming,so what happened to it.

Letter to The Telegraph the other day.

"SIR – As a chartered engineer who worked in the electricity supply industry for 39 years, I despair to hear politicians like Rebecca Long-Bailey claiming that renewables will provide for most of our energy needs by 2030.

Renewable generation – solar, wind and tidal – is, by definition, non-synchronous and it is technically impossible to operate our electricity transmission system solely on non-synchronous generation. There is a real danger of system instability and consequential widespread blackouts once non-synchronous generation exceeds around 30 per cent of total generation at any one time.

The National Grid report on the recent major outage makes numerous references to the lack of inertia in the system. This resulted from insufficient large synchronous generators (nuclear, coal, gas) being connected.

Given the need to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, the only option is to increase significantly nuclear build rapidly. Both Labour and Conservative governments have been unwilling to commit themselves to this, which has led us into the problems we now face.

It is unfortunate that politicians and environmental campaigners are ignorant of the technicalities of energy supply, or wish to ignore them. MPs may have the power to change the laws of the land, but not to change the laws of physics.

Re: Global warming,so what happened to it.

I was chastising myself for being an old cynic whilst watching the second coming of the modern day Flower-Power hippies dance about weirdly looking like they were all having an out-of-body experience..... (Extinction Rebellion). I wondered how on earth can all these people afford to take all this time off work or look for a job, attend interviews etc, etc? Many thought that they were our 'middle-class' privileged & could afford to do so?

My first instinct has proven correct, apparently they are being Paid to Protest, yes that's right they are really taking a POP literally!

"EXTINCTION REBELLION is paying its campaigners up to £400 a week to cause chaos on the streets of the UK, it has been revealed."

https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/11...-change-latest

(other sources of reference are freely available for picky punters)

Then I stumbled upon another controversial claim about how the founders & leaders of Extinction Rebellion conduct themselves, when not participating on the front line, here's one example of - do as I Say, Not as I Do!:

"Gail Bradbrook racked up 11,000 air miles when she flew to Costa Rica in 2016 to stay at the £2,500 luxury New Life Iboga resort.

The 47-year-old, pictured, helped to set up the protest group last year and it has called for a drastic reduction in the number of flights taken.

But Dr Bradbrook’s Central American trip had a carbon footprint of 2.6 tonnes – a quarter of the amount that the average Briton emits in a whole year.

She posted on Facebook that her holiday was ‘filled with nature and the warm sea’ and sightings of exotic wildlife including iguanas and monkeys that ‘smash mangoes on the roofs’.

She is pictured in a green outfit and the eco-group's sticker while calling on protesters near Great Portland Street in London where they are blocking the streets, on April 19"

The leading light of Extinction Rebellion Roger Hallam went from being an organic farmer to studying for a PhD in civil disobedience at King's College London, researching how to achieve social change through radical movements! He must have passed with flying colours!!! (pun intended)

"Hallam and four other activists were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to cause a public nuisance on 12 September 2019, the day before a planned action to pilot drones in the exclusion zone around Heathrow Airport in order to disrupt flights. Three days later, in an action organised by Heathrow Pause, Hallam was arrested in the vicinity of Heathrow Airport apparently in breach of bail conditions from the previous arrest requiring him to not to be within five miles of any airport or possess drone equipment. He was remanded in custody until 14 October.

Sadly, far from being an altruistic movement for the benefit of mankind, it seems they are just as motivated by money, power & meddling in National/International politics, using 'climate change' as a weaponised vehicle for their paymasters - whoever they are.....

Lock em Up!

Re: Global warming,so what happened to it.

Do you mean the multi millionaire private banker and hedge fund manager Stanley Johnson gets £400 a week , i think not , it would appear some organisers , photographers and legal advisers are paid expenses , as a one off .

Some folk have holidays booked , some work shift and come and go , as do many at uni or college .

Any cheap shot to decry the fact they care and will endure hardship to protest , for an alleged payment the media barons spend daily on lunch .

I know whom i am most likely to believe .

How about you ?

Saw Prince William was in the Himalayas today being shown how a glacier was melting causing problems to villagers.
How did he get there? Yes, helicopter.
Usual hypocrisy from this globetrotter.

I suppose those from Extinction will be walking to their holiday destinations next summer, let’s face it, I doubt if it will deter any of us from flying.
