Re: Global warming,so what happened to it.

Surely ice floats , 7/8ths or something , is the displacement the same frozen or thawed?

Re: Global warming,so what happened to it.

The displacement is the same.

Apparently the rising levels with `global warming`comes not so much from melting land ice but from the overall increase of the temperature of the worlds oceans which leads to the water masses expanding thereby increasing their volume.

Water also expands when it crystallises , this is why it floats.

You are correct. The Arctic ocean around the North Pole is frozen. Therefore, even if it completely melted, it would not affect the capacity of the oceans because it is already there- Archimedes' principle.
Id hate to disappoint you RC

The arctic cap is largely above sea level so melt will flow into the sea and levels will rise - surely that's not so difficult to understand.

Do you also not believe that temperatures are rising and exacerbated by human pollution.?

Sea level rise, explained...

Throughout the world, there are many accurate tide gauges that have records going back more than 100 years. Depending on where they are located, most show slight increases while others show decreases. But those increasing (a couple of millimetres per year), have been going on since those records began- it is not a new phenomenon.

But today, by chance, I came across this video that is food for thought:

It might be a good idea if you read that back to yourself- slowly.

Also, can you point in the National Geographic article where it confirms what you say above?

Thanks.

It appears that it was too difficult for you to understand Ill stick with National Geographic & NASA.

NASA zeroes in on ocean rise: How much? How soon?..

Seas around the world have risen an average of nearly 3 inches (8 centimeters) since 1992, with some locations rising more than 9 inches (25 centimeters) due to natural variation, according to the latest satellite measurements from NASA and its partners. An intensive research effort now underway, aided by NASA observations and analysis, points to an unavoidable rise of several feet in the future.

https://climate.nasa.gov/news/2329/n...much-how-soon/

BTW you missed my question in #24.

No, I understand perfectly well what you are trying to say. You are saying that if the Arctic Ocean melted, it would increase sea level.

Am I wrong?

Re: Global warming,so what happened to it.

Surely if the Artic ice cap is 1/10 above water and 9/10 under water the melt will compenstate as that which is underwater will reduce in volume, try putting a plastic bolltle of water in the freezer.
