entire nations could be wiped off the face of the Earth by rising sea levels if the global warming trend is not reversed by the year 2000. “.
I think the clue was in the word “could” in the statement it didn't say “will” .

Also “not reversed by the year 2000” was applied to the trend of warming. The article did not say when these “nations could be wiped off the face of the Earth”................

Also we now have to take into account climate modeling has improved in the last 30 years

I have read the article by Noel Brown, director of the New York office of the U.N. Environment Program, or UNEP. It says

"As the warming melts polar icecaps, ocean levels will rise by up to three feet, enough to cover the Maldives and other flat island nations, Brown told The Associated Press in an interview on Wednesday.

Coastal regions will be inundated; one-sixth of Bangladesh could be flooded, displacing a fourth of its 90 million people. A fifth of Egypt’s arable land in the Nile Delta would be flooded, cutting off its food supply, according to a joint UNEP and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency study."

And here is the Maldives as we speak. Beautiful, innit?

Re: Global warming,so what happened to it.

The most worrying thing to me is that the blond twerp in the US has adopted 'no climate change' as a political anthem and seems determined to increase global warming at every available opportunity.

I think as countries realise the fact and cut back on emissions that the next 6 months will show a decline.

I suspect Saoirse's data will back that up too

Re: Global warming,so what happened to it.

Eventually we may not be able to keep flying back and forth to our beloved places as we will be accused of ramping up the carbon footprint and aiding global warming. I did cut my flights down some years back and now just stay for longer. However I'm sure my little bit won't make any dent in the global warming fiasco at least not while China holds a world record of contributions to global warming.
