Should pensioners pay NI ?

Should pensioners pay NI ? money which could be used to drive down higher rate taxes and build up the trickle down economy.

Thoughts please.

Re: Should pensioners pay NI ?

Just think of all of the tax cuts for the wealthy depriving hard up pensioners their hard earned and long awaited for pensions .

We could even buy some more missiles to drop in Syria to kill more innocent men women and children .

Be proud pensioners taxing you will help . But not the retired .

Disgusting Woman , pure Tory , through and through , take their money from them .

Tax, yes over the threshold £12500 but not NI, the safety net of course is if your are a well paid pensioner then the possible resulting tax cuts should or could offset it.
If you are a poorer pensioner tough.

Sorry about that but is there not an income limit before NI must be paid?

Re: Should pensioners pay NI ?

I think you only need 35 years of NI payments to be entitled to your full pension.
If you are on PAYE you still have to make contributions after you have paid in for 35 years even though you don't get any increase in your pension.
If however you are self employed once you have paid 35 years that's it, you no longer need to pay NI.
So we are already getting conned by having to pay contributions for no return.
My wife, born in 54, has already lost thousands because Clegg and Cameron stitched all woman of that age up when they altered the retirement age at short notice.
All advice is save for your pension, I got turned over in the late 80's lost thousands. I also remember Equitable Life collapsed taking people's pensions. They still now keep bleating on about saving more and then you get suggestions like this?
Piss it up the wall sounds the best advice.

Re: Should pensioners pay NI ?

Sorry correction, if you are self employed you pay NI until you reach retirement age.
So we all need 35 years of NI to get full pension but if you work till 65 and started work at 15 you will have paid in ( as long as you earnt enough) for 50 years.

My understanding is that your pension income can be taxed over the personal allowance but you pay no NI unless you carry on working, Iíve asked Linsey for some guidance but the stare suggested that wasnít about to happen. Simplistically the Tories rob the poor to give to the rich, always have and always will.
