Maybe but at least we can be far more diligent than we are now. The “just in time” mode has just shown us the other side of it. For the 39 it was just out of time.
Is any trade worth what has just occurred? For me it’s a no.

Re: How tragic

With 3.8 million vehicles leaving the uk , and a very similar number entering seven and a half million loads could not be checked . Over twenty thousand checks a day would be needed . 3000 checks a day per port .

According to our own drivers isotrak reported dock checks causing over two hours delay .

As we can see this is not going to happen .

Sadly in trailer unlock or alarm is not going to happen either .

Perhaps long term sentencing for all involved may cause it to cease or at least diminish .

What's a life worth this day & age, a freezer trailer full of meat getting to Sainsburys on time?
I believe something will happen myself, just like something happened when boats filled with refugees started sinking in the Med.
I suppose the priority at the moment is to find the other lorries & trailers that were supposed to be in this "convoy". Fears must be that sixty more people may well be sitting locked in a trailer on some quayside somewhere.

Re: How tragic

Spurs if one person opens a trailer of meat , or if a rider is found inside the whole 22 to 26 tons must be destroyed .

I wonder how many loads of food would be lost before we go bust as a country .

You care , i care , business does not , neither do governments .

Perhaps I live in a land of dreams but businesses also knows what happens to their business once linked to sweat shops & the likes, they themselves pay the price.
My daughter works in retail for an international company, their suppliers are regularly checked out worldwide to make sure abuses don’t take place under their name.
I will say this though Steve, IMO after this escapade, certain freezer trailers will now be opened, because “meat” should not include dead human beings. No checks means more of the same.
So sad watching the victims families & it’s anyone’s guess what these poor souls went through watching people around them freeze or suffocate to death.

No they will not , there is no one and no where to do so , let alone the writing off of hundreds of thousands pounds worth of meat . Imports would cease immediately .

Re: How tragic

Maybe the imports should stop. We can restructure our economy with more regard to farm to fork distance, yes, this may be the end of cheap food, but maybe we should be willing to pay more to stay local. the same applies to clothing.

Re: How tragic

Brexit will mean huge floods of cheap meat imports , our producers have an average herd of 50 to 80 cows producing heifers for meat .

Argentine herds are in the tens if not hundreds of thousands , as are American and Australian farmers .

We cannot compete without import tariffs , cheap meat and no home producers , you can see the dilemma .

50,000 lbs of fillet steak on a cooler king being scrapped , plus the scrappage cost , lost business and trucking costs , it is never going to be tolerated by importers.

The losses at retail would be over a million quid on a single load .

Never going to happen .
