Re: SGK 15% increased premium

We are in a predicament. We have travel insurance through Nationwide which we extend by paying a premium to cover us for 6 months. This has worked out fine so far as we travel back to the UK in good time.
We were due back at the end of March but of course our flight was cancelled. Our insurance runs out a few days. After numerous attempts to contact the insurance company, we finally got through today. No email address of course! They said that cover canít be extended and advised arranging a repatriation flight through the consulate. Reading from a script!
We feel a lot safer here than we would in the UK and our residency is due for renewal next month. The process has been started for that.
If we return to the UK our travel insurance would then probably be invalidated if we returned here anyway, if the government are still advising not to travel.
I enquired about private insurance for 3 months to allow us time to arrange SGK.
The premium was over £3000, probably because of our ages, being 70 and 67. I thought that was taking the p***!
Reading through the posts it would seem we need our marriage certificate for SGK, which is in the UK.
Iím pulling my hair out!

If you have any family in the UK, fill the form in on this website and get a copy sent to their address, Then get them to send it to you via cargo

Re: SGK 15% increased premium

Not knowing what changes are afoot, I would get the cert apostilled before couriering it out. You can do it all online from Turkey, you will just need someone in the Uk to post it by registered post. I have done this. I think it cost about £35. then you are armour plated against local rule changes.

Re: SGK 15% increased premium

Just remember it is a government website and they are notorius for cocking things up

We needed to get Kath's birth certificate and our marriage certificate to the DWP , prior to her getting her state pension
No problem we thought , we'll get our daughter to send off for duplicates of both and send them (as we needed our marriage certificate for our SGK)
Tracy sent off for both but only the marriage certificate came back so she contacted them and they said they couldn't find any birth certificate and was Kath adopted (she was when she was 3) so to request an adoption certificate (which was a waste of time as we didn't know any of the actual adoption questions ie actual date, district etc)

We decided it would be better to give the birth certificate to a friend of ours when they came over and let Tracy collect it from them . Then weirdly enough we were in a local pub when a couple asked if they could join us for the pub quiz, after chatting for a while, it turned out they lived in Chester, where Tracy lives, so we asked and they said no problem , so a few weeks later Tracy had both documents

Seeing as we apparently had the only copy of Kath's birth certificate in existence , Tracy sent an accompanying letter and a pre paid registered envelope addressed to her address to make sure we got it back safe (she would then bring it when she came over)

About 10 days later , a Turkish lady from down the road handed us a brown envelope wrongly posted to her .It was the birth certificate and marriage certificate !
