The Splash sells for £23million

Can this really be worth £23million, obviously yes but what!

To me it is an absolute joke and looks out of perspective.

Re: The Splash sells for £23million

Agreed. Nothing - including this picture - is worth that amount of money. There is of course a world of difference between worth and what some idiotic person with more money than sense is prepared to pay for it!

Hockney's paintings, like those of Lowry, have a certain naivety to them, which obviously appeals to some people. Personally, I can't see the attraction. This particular painting could have been painted by anyone. I am afraid I can't see any skill in it at all.

We got married in a church right opposite where Lowry lived in his later years, Station road in Swinton

I think I heard on the radio that it was bought for about 2 million not that many years ago. Good investment what ??? I wonder if tax is due on such a windfall ?

Likely to be an off shore investment Hills so no tax I'm afraid, but in terms of value, market forces determine that, simple capitalism, plus David Hockney is getting on so maybe an investment in his lack of longevity perhaps.

Re: The Splash sells for £23million

Yes, many very wealthy people and companies buy pricey works of art and lock them away for safe keeping when they will increase in value. This is SO not right and the artist would be rolling in his/her grave just to know that their wonderful work of art was locked away in the dark for years, simply to increase in value.
