Re: Trump

Meanwhile in America.jpg

"Trump’s “America First” gambit has turned his nation from the world’s strategic rock into one of its most volatile sources of instability.

US exhaustion after years in battle in Iraq and Afghanistan -- combined with Trump’s soft spot for tyrants -- is offering an opening for Russia and Turkey to regain lost influence.

And the superpower face-off between the US and China has potential to become a new Cold War, as Trump seeks to scapegoat Beijing for his errors in handling the virus, and as the most powerful Communist Party leader in decades ruthlessly pursues the “Chinese Dream”

Re: Trump

Meanwhile in America.jpg

"Now I can be really vicious"

President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign may be the least truthful and most divisive in modern American history.

In recent days, the President has accused Democratic nominee Joe Biden of being mentally “shot” and “on drugs,” and implied that the 77-year-old will not be fit to serve within a month of taking office -- a crude attack on a rival only three years his elder. His disparagement of Democratic vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris has taken an increasingly racist and sexist tone. And during a riotous campaign swing, he claimed Democrats generally want to “lock law-abiding Americans in their homes.”

Trump is also escalating false claims that the election will be rigged, claiming that mail-in voting is “unconstitutional” — an outright lie. And he’s resorting to ever-more inflammatory rhetoric to scare up the votes of White suburbanites: “Does anybody want to have somebody from Antifa as a member, as a resident of your suburb? I don’t think so,” Trump said Thursday, conjuring a fantasy of picket-fenced suburbs under invasion.

What is he up to? Of course, Trump loves saying outrageous things to get a rise from crowds. But he also needs to win over more voters than the typical 42% or so who think he’s doing a great job. And his turn toward the unhinged reveals a huge bet at the center of his reelection bid.

Portraying America as a land in flames and inciting racial divides may not win the moderate middle, but the Trump campaign believes there could be millions of Americans who quietly identify with his tribalism and extreme rhetoric -- and who will show up to vote in November instead of taking a pass as normal. It’s a long shot, but if they are right, all the polls showing Biden as the frontrunner could be shown to have made false assumptions about the electorate. We’ll find out in 50 days.

Despite his flame-thrower rhetoric, Trump says it’s Democrats who’ve crossed the line. On the campaign trail this weekend, the President complained that Democrats had been unfair to him by seizing on his reported remarks that US war dead in France were “losers” and “suckers.” “Pathetic Joe, he’s a pathetic human being to allow that to happen,” Trump said at a rally in Nevada Saturday night, concluding: “Now I can be really vicious.”

Fascism Scholar Says U.S. Is 'Losing Its Democratic Status'
https://www.npr.org/2020/09/06/91032...ocratic-status

Fascism is "a cult of the leader who promises national restoration in the face of humiliation brought on by supposed communists, Marxists and minorities and immigrants who are supposedly posing a threat to the character and the history of a nation...The leader proposes that only he can solve it and all of his political opponents are enemies or traitors."

Trump "claims that he is going to remain in power for many years beyond what is legal. He sends federal forces in to quell largely peaceful protests for racial justice in his country. His attorney general seems dedicated to him over the rule of law. The major political party that controls the courts and most of the government has, as their entire platform, devotion to him."

Fascism writ large, the only good fascist is a dead one.

Re: Trump

Its sad to hear of the Death and loss of the US demure firebrand R.B.G. Ruth Bader Ginsburg associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States.

A renowned fighter for both Gender Rights and Women's Rights in the US...

On Abortion once saying " the basic thing is that the government has no business making that choice for a woman".

She was a fighter, and even though her body was riddled with pain due to cancer ,she battled on determined not to retire, and allow Trump to ruin even more by allowing him a third right wing nominee of his term to the Supreme Court (possibly one of the Right's zealots like Ted Cruz, who would certainly strike down the landmark Abortion law on Roe v. Wade )..
It will Leave the balance within the Supreme Court even further to the Right allowing them to gain a 7-2 majority on the nation’s highest Court by the end of Trumps second term, and the damage they could do...... Unfortunately she has lost both these fights to both Cancer and Trump.....

She will sadly missed RIP.....

Re: Trump

Historically, the original usage and definition of the term 'facism', was solely economic, and described the opposite of 'communism'. Facism decribed an economic system where 'the few own all means of production, implmented via policeis of corporatism, by which the elite intended to enrich themselves'. Hence it became associated with, for example, the NAZI party and their opposition to Bolshevik communism. Subsequently various intrepretations have arisen in modern usage, all generally muddled from this original clarity, including the muddling of the racial dimension of Hitler's insanity, which has been adopted into the modern contextual usage of facism to infer racism, when in fact the definition of one term has nothing to do with the definition of the other, and simply reflects limited precision of thought, and the result of the general encroachment of the mis-information strategies widely applied for manipulating public perceptions... (JC Hard at Work ? How and Why is it otherwise possible for a well read person to be quoting a journalist as discredited as Rachel Maddow...?))

Interestingly, the anti-Trump clarion VOX even promotes the concept that Trump is not facist... https://www.vox.com/policy-and-polit...-trump-fascism...

'Donald Trump is not a fascist. "Fascism" has been an all-purpose insult for many years now, but it has a real definition, and according to scholars of historical fascism, Trump doesn't qualify. Rather, he's a right-wing populist...'
