Re: The EU going forward

I don’t know why they even took the vote, everyone has known for weeks what Hungry & Poland were going to do and........they did it.

The French and Dutch voted against EU constitution - ignored. 2015 Greek referendum - ignored. If they had been able to overrule Brexit they would have done that too.

The Government of Eire took that decision , the EU has no jurisdiction in a state wide matter , the media that suggested otherwise were either lying or terminally thick . Difficult to decide which .

They would be Brexit supporters, they do love to be told lies.

Re: The EU going forward

If I'm reading it right, the EU budget requires a unanimous agreement to get signed off. Unlike past votes, this doesn't involve a member states citizens, these are two actual member states Governments objecting.
As said, everyone knew it was coming, so what does the EU do now, penalize them for exercising their Rights?
I'm sure there'll be a plan B somewhere but the "take it back to the citizens" isn't on the table.

Re: The EU going forward

It was better for the EU to let Orban ( Hungry) and the Polish Nationalists lose out on the funds ...and have to explain to their people and electorate ....

As it wouldn't have passed anyway, without the legislation making it conditional on adherence to the rule of law... a founding premise of the EU.

As the Dutch would have led other members to veto it if it anyway had it been scrapped ... So better to put blame where its due...

The EU could hardly stop recently Turkey, Azerbaijan and Belarus EU 2021 funding..... due to them not meeting the necessary conditions to receive it, by respecting human rights, and the rule of law and international law.... when EU members Hungry an Poland were not meeting it...

They must’ve had time on their hands to even take a vote count......waste of time.
Some EU member states citizens will back their own Government when it comes to threats from Brussels.
