Re: Mosque or Church

There are several things that concern me about Turkey just now but I won't list them as they would be politically sensitive.
All I would say is the people will decide and everyone has a "sell by" date.

Re: Mosque or Church

Istanbul Mayor Imamoglu a religious man himself but a modern all inclusive progressive politician is against Hagia Sophia becoming a Mosque but stay as a museum ...but you will be lucky to see it in a muzzled Turkish Press or media, unless its for him to be called a traitor by challenged Nationalists . .... You will be even lucky to see it in the International Press.

Seems the change hasn't halted the decline in his votes

The Eurasia Research Company shared its last survey.

Citizens participating in the study stated that the opening of Hagia Sophia as a mosque did not affect their political preferences.

According to the survey the citizens pointed to the economy and unemployment as the biggest problem in Turkey.

It's the economy that puts bread on the tables.

Re: Mosque or Church

With calls for a Caliphate to be set up in Turkey ...and a Taliban flag unfurled in the Hagia Sophia the decision of change from Museum to Mosque has turned into a Pandora's box ... with complaints coming from Afghanistan and Iran...as reported in the Turkish press....

Afghanistan reacts to the opening of the Taliban flag in Hagia Sophia
The opening of the flag of the bloody radical Islamist organization Taliban in Hagia Sophia, which was opened for worship as a mosque, was met with a reaction by Afghanistan.

Following the opening of the Taliban flag in a park in Hagia Sophia and Iran, the Afghanistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on Ankara and Tehran to take the necessary measures to prevent the propaganda of the organization.

Re: Mosque or Church

Who owns the Hag Sophia?
what is the main religion of the owners ?,
why should they not decide it's use ?
Why do folk in other countries, of a different religion, who contribute nothing to the upkeep, who dont own it expect their wishes to be paramount over the Turkish state?.

Their building, their choice.

Their building, their choice.
It was built to be a church. The muslim law in the Koran says it is against there belief to take buildings and property belongs from another religion.

Plenty of churches in the UK are now mosques, where is the law that ses it cant happen and which countries law is it, remembering Hag is in Turkey and they have broken no laws, domestic or International.

Can you direct me to the Koran passage please?

So, Turkey owns the Hag Sophia, they are not Christian, they maintain it and pay for it but some Christians around Europe want them to do what they want, good luck with that, Imagine if some folks in Pakistan started telling England what to do with Westminster Abbey ?
