Elephant in the room

I have been thinking how much harder is must be to enforce social distancing in the UK than in Turkey. Lack of National ID cards makes many things more difficult in the UK than Turkey.
I do realise that 'Big Brother Brigade' will soon jump onto this but I would be in favour of their introduction in the UK and have been for many years.
I wonder what other TLF members feel.

I was in favour of ID cards when David Blunkett tried to introduce them
I'm still in favour

Re: Elephant in the room

I really don't understand why people have an issue with ID cards. Many people have a driving licence and don't object to carrying it (I assume!). Many have a passport and don't object to having it. What is so different about an ID card? All in favour here.

They should have been introduced years ago it's a good way of stopping benefit fraud.

Re: Elephant in the room

The other day I was stopped at a road check (Middle of the night), the officer put my number plate into his tablet, and asked for my TC number, it checked that i was the owner of the car, and nothing was amiss, and I was on my way in about 1 minute flat. Couldn't do that in the UK. 50 people at a party, collect all ID cards and sort out the admin later. Simple.

Re: Elephant in the room

When my,now grown up, sons were at home they regularly took their passports out with them in order to get into clubs etc.
They saw no reason not to have an I.d card.
I have heard in the past sme people saying we fought a world war not to have to carry I'd cards!
I understand even that bastion of individual freedom, the USA seems to run on individuals social security number or its equivalent.

Re: Elephant in the room

As soon as you give your TC number here in Turkey, trust automatically follows, we really need this in the UK.

Re: Elephant in the room

I agree ... should have been introduced years ago and made to be carried by law. Unfortunately many of those attending parties in UK at present 'forget' to take their brains, so are unlikely to remember to take their ID card!!

Re: Elephant in the room

Too many people in the UK are not traceable and wont ever be issued ID because authorities have no idea who's who. The authorities have no idea about many of those that have recently run to the hills from our coastal areas.
