If you're pinning your hopes on a Covid vaccine, here's a dose of realism..

Volunteer in Oxford University coronavirus vaccine trial dies in Brazil

An investigation is underway after the volunteer taking part in trials for the Oxford University and AstraZeneca vaccine died, but testing has not been halted

https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-...virus-22884509

Hopefully, this was not caused by the vaccine but if it was, that will put even more people off of having it.

Covid: No safety concerns found with Oxford vaccine trial after Brazil death

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-54634518

One part that I am confused about,

Brazilian media report that the volunteer was a 28-year-old doctor who died of Covid-19 complications. They say the doctor had worked with infected patients. This has not been publicly confirmed by Anvisa.

Wouldn't have thought if you have covid you could be vaccinated, also how can they prove whether it was because he worked with infected patients'.

Re: Covid/19 Vaccine.

Oxford Univ., Coronavirus Vaccine builds 'Strong Immunity’ to Covid-19, study finds

The Covid-19 vaccine spearheaded by Oxford University builds strong immunity to the virus, a study has found, in a boost to global vaccination hopes.

As the front-runner in the global rasce for a vaccine entered final Phase III clinical trials, researchers at Bristol University carried out tests to check whether it was behaving as intended.

The Oxford vaccine, developed in partnership with Astrazeneca, is made by taking a common cold virus from chimpanzees and deleting about 20 per cent of the virus’s instructions.

Scientists then have the space to add in new instructions to make a so-called coronavirus “spike protein” – which the immune system then attacks.

This means it is impossible for the vaccine to replicate or cause disease in humans, but it can still be produced in the laboratory under special conditions, according to the researchers.

The Bristol team found that the vaccine was successfully able to instruct human cells to copy the genetic instructions to create the spike protein.

Once the spike protein is made, the immune system reacts to it and this pre-trains the immune system to identify a real infection, they explained.

Dr David Matthews, from Bristol's School of Cellular and Molecular Medicine (CMM), who led the research, said: “Until now, the technology hasn't been able to provide answers with such clarity, but we now know the vaccine is doing everything we expected and that is only good news in our fight against the illness.'

Sarah Gilbert, who leads the Oxford University vaccine trial, praised the study for helping to explain the vaccine’s effectiveness.

Remdesivir Is the First FDA-Approved Treatment for COVID-19...

"Remdesivir, an antiviral medication given intravenously, is now approved for anyone hospitalized with COVID-19. It works by blocking the virus’s ability to make more copies of itself. Earlier this year, the drug had received emergency use authorization (EUA), which falls short of approval but is granted during a public health crisis if there is encouraging data supporting its potential benefits. Approval means the drug’s maker, Gilead, provided more information to the FDA on the medication’s effectiveness and safety than was used to issue the EUA...

Coronavirus vaccine breakthrough: UK hospital on alert for deliveries NEXT WEEK.

HEALTH officials in London are on standby to take delivery of a new coronavirus vaccine from next week.

A major hospital trust in London has been informed they should prepare to receive the first batches of the Oxford Astra-Zeneca vaccine from the "week commencing the 2 November".

Frontline doctors and nurses will be vaccinated at the hospital as soon as the Government gives the green light. There are security fears over potential anti-vaccination protests and so the hospital is planning to organise extra security measures.

Speaking to The Sun, a Whitehall source said: “They are liaising with the police and even the Army over a number of security concerns.”

The news comes as the George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust in Warwickshire “has been told to be prepared to start a Covid-19 staff vaccine programme in early December”.

There is also developments from the US about a vaccine breakthrough.

Medical officer Doctor Anthony Fauci said: "We will know whether a vaccine is safe and effective by the end of November, the beginning of December."

Re: Covid/19 Vaccine.

Coronavirus: ‘Milestone’ in hunt for vaccine – Oxford jab shows strong immune response. HOPES of a coronavirus vaccine breakthrough rose last night after early trials showed a "strong immune" response in older volunteers. Tests of the Oxford jab also found the over-55s had lower levels of side-effects than younger participants.

Experts hailed the development as a “milestone” in the race to secure a vaccination that will help the world recover from the Covid-19 pandemic. The risk of becoming seriously ill with coronavirus increases with age, meaning any vaccination programme must be effective in the older population. Interim results from the vaccine, produced by Oxford University and pharmaceutical firm AstraZeneca, suggest it produces a robust immune response in the old and the young.

Re: Covid/19 Vaccine.

So another vaccine is almost ready to roll, Moderna, but it won't be coming to a clinic near you, even better efficacy than the Phizer one, far better logistically as well.

Re: Covid/19 Vaccine.

Let MPs, Lords & Ladies lead the way when the vaccine arrives...........let them have it first & lets have a register on it, like we have on their voting. After all, they have all ages, all sizes, all colours, all ailments.
