Re: Earthquake

Cengiz has just called some of our friends in Kuşadası. They say several buildings have been damaged but no-one has been killed or injured.
The damage seems to be all the way down the West coast from Izmir, down as far as Bodrum, along with a lot of damage and injuries in Athens and on some of the Greek Islands, mainly Samos.

My heart goes out to all these people and only hope that they get all the help that is available to them along with accomodation for those that have lost their homes.
Here's the link for what's appeared so far in the British press.

Re: Earthquake

We were in the Kusadasi AVM in Deichmann when it struck.....we're 100km from Izmir.

Never have we felt anything like this, the whole store was shaking and nearly took us off our feet.

There are a lot of shops with big glass windows and we're surprised only one of them broke.
Most shops ended up shutting for the day within an hour.

Re: Earthquake

Spoke to friends on Kos, they certainly felt it, and it was felt on the lower islands of Tilos, Halki and Rhodes.

Re: Earthquake

We are in Cigli, just north of the centre of Izmir. Our flat shook like crazy and we ran down to the garden area to see plumes of dust rising from the flats collapsing in Bayrakli district.Lots of residents have left for the night, never seen the car park so empty.

Why do you find it different to England ? apart from England doesn't get earthquakes of that magnitude.
