 An Update on yesterday’s Earthquake

Early hours this morning it’s reported that a young woman and her dog were both rescued from an 8 floor destroyed building to the cheers of rescuers & loved ones, successful rescues have continued on through the night giving hope to those still awaiting news.

At least 27 people have died including an elderly woman who drowned during the partial tsunami and over 800 injured. At least 734 were injured in Izmir, 5 in Manisa, 2 in Balikesir & 54 in Aydin. It’s believed at least 435 people are still receiving hospital treatment, 25 in Intensive care and 9 undergoing surgeries.

Since the quake hit at 2:51pm (local time) there have been some 389 recorded aftershocks with 33 having a magnitude of over 4.0, officials have warned for the public to expect more to come.

Over 4000 rescue personnel and 20 sniffer dogs were dispatched to the scene yesterday, the coast guard also had 116 rescue workers, 11 boats, 3 helicopters and 1 diving team to help with the rescue efforts!

The Turkish Red Cresent (like the British Red Cross) has set up 960 disaster tents and multiple field kitchens with a capacity to feed 56,300 people!

The Turkish and Greek presidents held a telephone conversation & government officials are said to have exchanged mutual messages of solidarity despite the recent political tensions between the 2 nations and have pledged help to one another should it be needed!

Our thoughts & prayers are with all those affected in Izmir as we wake up today 31st October, thankful we experienced only a few building cracks and a scare! We have awoken today as a very grateful Didim

Re: Earthquake

Turks have always had good engineers but unfortunately dishonest builders.

They restored an old stone house near me and incorporated an earthquake proof steel frame. Very impressive

Translation:
In Kuşadası, the center of the aftershocks, 31 people were injured and more than 100 buildings were damaged due to the panic caused by the earthquake.

The balance sheet of the earthquake became clear in Kuşadası , one of the places where the earthquake in İzmir was felt most intensely in Aydın . It was learned that 31 people were injured in various ways and taken to Kuşadası State Hospital due to the fear and panic caused by the earthquake in the district where the aftershocks continued.

On the other hand, it was learned that more than 100 buildings were damaged and evacuated for precautionary purposes, especially in neighborhoods such as Hacıfeyzullah District and Türkmen District.

Kuşadası District Governor Saadettin Yücel, Aydın Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Özlem Framioğlu and Kuşadası Mayor Ömer Günel also visited the affected points and conveyed their wishes to the citizens.

Re: Earthquake

Strange going's on allegedly with the seismic plates

Translation

The Sea retreated 15 meters in Bodrum, forming islets

In Muğla's Bodrum district, the sea has receded for about 15 meters from noon today, causing islets to form on the beaches and boats to run aground.

he sudden recession of the sea on the coast of Yalıçiftlik, Gümbet, Bitez and Ortakent districts of Muğla's Bodrum district caused excitement for those on the beach.

Fishing and hiking on i the world-famous Gümbet Neighborhood beach were shocked. It was seen that the sea was pulled from 8 meters to 15 meters in places, and islets formed in the middle of the sea.

Some of them went up to 50 meters by swimming in their clothes. Tourism professional Yüksel Turan, 48, said, “I have been living in Bodrum for 35 years.

We even experienced a tsunami event here a few years ago. However, this time the sea was very recessed within a few hours. This is the first time I've ever seen something like this. "Fish would enter up to 20 meters inside. The sea is 20 meters behind where we are now, we interpreted the recent earthquake activity."

Mustafa Erdogan, Vice President of the Mugla Chamber of Engineers of the Geology Chamber and a member of the Board of Directors of the TMMOB Bodrum Branch, spoke to SÖZCÜ on the issue.

Erdogan said, “At the same time today, I was on the boat at the Bitez Mahallesi Adaboğazı Area, where the water receded, and I easily observed the retreat from the traces of sea water on the rocks.

The waters receded to a depth of an inch. "The movement in the fault lines in the region causes deep fractures and the sea is retreating because of this, the earthquake zone in the region is nothing to worry about," he said. Some citizens recorded the sea withdrawal event with photos and videos.
