Sorry about my previous post. I'm a new member and I've had some trouble posting, but I hope this one comes through.

I want to go to Girne and I need some good tips on cheap hotels/pensiyons in central Girne. Or if you know wether it is difficult to hunt for accomodation once you are there? What is the going rate for a hotel room? I don't need a flashy hotel. Just a roof over my head really. As I'm travelling alone I can't spend to much on accomodation but am looking for the cheapest possible place to stay. And as I want to stay for 3-4 weeks a cheapish place is needed :)

Welcome Eva, I have spoken to a travel agent that specialises in North Cyprus, you can contact Seljuk on +4420 7923 3230, his email address is selcuknecili@hotmail.com

As prices and availability depends on when you are travelling, it might be better to talk to him direct.

For next month the average rate is about £20 per night. Let us know how you get on, and if you still need some help I will ask a few other people in North Cyprus.

Thanks for the wellcome Merlin! Actually I'm from sweden - a swede :D I have travelled many times to turkey; Alanya 12 times, Side one time, Kemer, Kas, Gazipasa, Antalya one time each. Now I have grown a wee bit tired of Alanya ( it is simply not what it used to be) and I want to expand my horizon. Thought I might try North Cyprus in september/october or next may. All depending on my - as the yanks put it - cashflow... It is a bit*h travelling solo as you have to pay for everything yourself. And if you want to stay for a bit it can get quite expensive :-(

Bad thing about the internet is that you often only find the "better" hotels advertised and not the inexpensive pensiyons/hostels you really need information about. It is all very pricey hotel villages, resorts so on *sigh* And when you are a "poor" traveller with an expensive and unusuall taste in travel you find yourself quite alone *S*

And one reason I go to turkey is that it is still, for me, relatively inexpensive... The other reason of course is why everyone else go there. The friendly and hospitable people (wich are growing fewer by the season in places like Alanya, I'm sorry to say) the food, history, beautiful nature so on.

Mustaq, thank you for your help. I still don't know if I will be able to go this season (september/october if I go) but I will surely talk to him if I do. The price 20 pounds/night, that is for peak season, right? So when I go in May or september it might be even cheaper?

I know of places in Alanya that only charge about 5-10 euros/night. They are by no means classy resorts, but it is a roof over my head and that is all I really need. All I do is sleep there anyway.

Thanks again,

Eva

hi evaelena welcome..i frequently go over to Girne by ferry. takes 3 hours or so from Alanya. Fergun Ferries is the company name. i have also been by plane many times from Antalyai
i prefer the ferry as Girne is such a nice place. i usually stay in a small hotel in the town harbour(not the ferry port) called Yellow Lion. i paid 60ytl for two nights last september but you can get cheaper pensions or more expensive hotels ..wide choice.
ive never booked just gone on spec and alwys found somewhere.
have you been before? theyve pedestrianised the main part of town now so you dont get run over crossing the road.!!

as i am moving to kyrenia i must say that they have pedestrianised the main top of town nice but in a way i preferred it as it was, however if you stand outside the ko op bank opposite deniz staionary there is a board where it shows pictures of the town b4 and after the works
If you go from tasucu the ferry only takes about 45 minutes
