Re: Internet in KKTC
Hi Kingfisher. We are with Extend Broadband Telephone +90 (392) 444 29 92. We've been with them for two years and have found them fine. My neighbour who is also with them has his internet turned off and on as and when he is here. However it is a payment up front as there is no check on the customer (ie Residency).
Strange about the Kibcom thing as I didn't have a problem registering with them.

Thanks Hijo, we used Short Circuit in Ayia Napa but I wasn't sure about how it worked in the North.

Nothing definitive yet, the North is economically more interesting, has some of the most interesting cultural sites of the island and the best beaches, we speak the lingo and it feels a bit more like home. The South is attractive too and we still have loads to discover though maybe in a less British area than the one we were in. The appeal of it being a European country has taken a knock since Brexit and the anti-Turkish feeling is strong in the South so it sometimes feels uncomfortable for us having to airbrush out 8 years of our lives when talking to some Cypriots. So pros and cons on either side of the border but we have the freedom of movement (at the moment) not to have to make a decision yet but to take our time and find what suits us at the right price. Still homesick for Turkey, though...

We loved Turkey, still do, but things have changed since we first settled in Turkey in 2008. And it is too difficult to sit back and watch as your friends are imprisoned or just disappear. Nightly arrests, false accusations of terrorism, muhtars threatening to put you on The List if you don't cough up, anonymous tip-offs on the noisy neighbours (obviously Gülenists), büfes no longer having their licences renewed, restaurants slowly being replaced by alkolsüz lokantas, always having to look over your shoulder when you talk and being careful who you talk to, going inside and closing windows and shutters to talk in hushed voices, a general atmosphere of fear, mistrust and suspicion.
