Less than 90 days on passport

This is a long shot, but has anyone had any issue entering North Cyprus either via Ercan airport or via the border crossings with less than 90 days validity left on their passport?

Thank you.

Re: Less than 90 days on passport

if they follow similar rules as Turkey it should be 6 months

You are kindly advised to have a travel document/passport valid for at least 6 months as from the date of your arrival in Turkey.

This is not Turkey, it is North Cyprus. The websiet only states
"For the citizens of the European Union:
A valid EU passport or national identity card is required"

but since a 90-day visa is issued at Ercan or at ports, I assumed that the border crossing might request 90 on passports also, but wanted to know if anyone had had experience of this.

I know its not Turkey that why I stated in my post if they follow similar rules to Turkey
But in General most countries operated the 6 month rule

As a general rule, passports should have at least six months of validity when traveling internationally. Most countries will not permit a traveler to enter their country unless the passport is set to expire at least six months after the final day of travel. That means if your passport has less than six months remaining until the expiration date, you should renew it right away! Adult passports (16 and older) for U.S. citizens are valid for ten years, while minor passports (15 and younger) for U.S. citizens are valid for 5 years. There are additional passport requirements though, and they differ from nation to nation. Be sure to check the entry and exit requirements for each country you plan to travel as these requirements can change regularly.

UK Gov site for Uk Passport Holders
However, if you’re travelling to the north of Cyprus, their administration advises that your passport should be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry to the north.

Re: Less than 90 days on passport

Cyprus is a little more complicated though as the island entered the European Union as a whole in 2008 and so EU nationals have freedom of movement, but EU legislation is suspended in the part not under government control. Turkish Cypriots are EU citizens as they are citizens of an EU country - the Republic of Cyprus - even if they live in a part of Cyprus not under government control. So the "international" part of the border crossing between South Nicosia and North Nicosia is quite a different situation from any other international border crossing especially for EU citizens.

Re: Less than 90 days on passport

I really don't know the answer to your question Kingfisher but this may be relevant. Our passports run out this year, mine in April and 'is in August. Last February (2017) we applied for our resi permit and assumed they would only give us a year or so until the pp expiry but surprise surprise, the permit they gave us was for two years, well after the expiry date. So I'm thinking they're really not too bothered.

Re: Less than 90 days on passport

It is recommended to have a passport valid for at least 6 months on the date of visa application.

VISA Regulations - Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus

I guess it down to when they mean by recommended

I know of some people that have been given only 30 day visa when entering Northern Cyprus instead of 90 day visa but that might down to that they were in Northern Cyprus during the previous 6 months

Re: Less than 90 days on passport

Yes, that's the website I was quoting.

When you enter in Ercan you have a 90 day stamp given, I usually fly back through Larnaca and walk over into the North in Nicosia where they don't stamp your passport just scan it.

I was interested to know if anyone had actually done that with less than 90 days on their passport.

Re: Less than 90 days on passport

They do not always give 90 days, it depends on the nationality of the visitor and which border post is being used.
