Hi Womble: Our UK neighbours visiting here in Turkey,
just left our house, after telling us they were told they
had to hold a resident permit to purchase a boat!! Could this be true?
Would appreciate any replies to verify..
Thanks Yas

Re: buying boats
Hi,
Believe me buying a boat will make you 30 years older overnight!
I tried to bring a boat to Turkey from England only a Hobie 16 and it was grief I couldnt keep it here I couldnt sell it I couldnt burn it I couldnt sink it I had to take it back, like everything else in Turkey there are 76 channels to go through of bureacracy and at the end of that probably a "Boat Certificate" costing money I am not sure of all the procedures but its not simple.
Regards,
Bryan

Re: buying boats
Hi Womble. A turkish friend of ours has just bought a new boat. He traded in his larger one as the tax on it was so high. From what he was saying, you have to pay a tax almost like our road tax each year and the bigger the boat the higher the tax. I don't know if this tax applies to foreigners or on what size boat it starts eg:would you have to pay it on a dingy. Hope this helps.....Pennie
 thats me........

Re: buying boats
If you have a Turkish flag boat ( rather than a foreign flag boat )with an engine of any size you need to have an Amatuer Captains license obtained here or a license from the Uk.
Boat with engines over 10 hp have to pay tax.
There are rumours that this will change to 20 hp shortly.

Re: buying boats
hello all, thank you so very much for the prompt replies.
Have also been informed, amateur captains licence courses
offered in Marmaris. Now to tackle the problem: instructions
are in Turkish! Me thinks our summer time neighbours will
need to reassess their purchase plans or keep the boat in the
marina as a floating "cool" haven..

Re: buying boats
Yüksel Yachting in Marmaris do courses in English.
Their instructor is ex- British navy,I believe.
It might be easier and cheaper to do a course in the Uk and get your license from there.
