Re: Gardening
Hi Joan,
we have a very heavily scented large shrub near the front of our apartment entrance, it's evening scented and it's beautiful, I found out it's called oleander, and you see it in all the plant nurseries. It has small white flowers and smells heavenly.
What I also found out is that it's heavily toxic, 1/4 lb of leaves can kill a horse apparently !
So not ideal for an apartment block with small children or dogs, or people who like to eat plants !

I may be way off here, but could it be Melissa as that has a very strong scent.

Re: Gardening
We've been told it's of the Jasmine family. NOT Melissa which is an annual.

Re: Gardening
Thanks for all your replies, and apologies for putting my question in the wrong place. I know it is not oleander or melissa. It maybe a jasmine but I do not know of a night scented one. It does not smell during the day. I have asked the name of it in several places but the locals did not know the "english" or latin name for it. They usually call it evening honeysuckle. However in Northern Cyprus a shopkeeper told me a name but I am sure he was having a joke as he told me it was called (I am not being offensive here, just repeating what he called it) Pakistaninightia or pakistania?!! Any other suggestions? Joan

Re: Gardening
I had a some plants last year which my mum gave me as she is a keen gardener. I noticed it only had a very strong scent in the evening/night. Is it an english name that your after or the turkish name? because if its the english name I can ask her what this was called, (it wasnt honeysuckle or jasmine as I have both of those in my garden, ) i think its only an annual plant though.
