A 30 mile round trip would allow for a good few hills to be climbed.

there is a famous mountain climb in the USA that professionals race up each year , nearly 30 miles climbing.

The record ascent is for a non sense professional cyclist , having a heart bypass and stents fitted , in his fifties on an electric bike.

They are that good.

The bikes that is.

Cheers for all your help on this

Think I have located a place near me in Spain who rents them out so will give it a go next month and report back

The area we are in is massive for cycling with many professional teams using it for event training. There's definitely a priority given to bikes on the B roads in our region so that with the gorgeous scenery and frequent quaint villages make it a very attractive pastime

Re: E Bikes

Good luck mate , check the battery on a hire bike , they are often knackered and run out of power quickly.

You need high tyre pressures on an e bike , talk to the hirer and ensure they are correctly inflated.

Re: E Bikes

Straying slightly off the subject of electric Bikes and their wattage before having to be registered, do the same wattage rules apply to mobility scooters?

And What is the maximum wattage before one has to be registered

EDIT:
Ok I think I got the information I wanted which is if less than a maximum motor wattage of 250Watts or/and less than 25kph then registration is not required.

Quote:
In Summary All electric bikes with a power output over 250watts and/or with a higher maximum speed of 25 kph must be registered as a ”up to 49cc petrol m/cycle.”
.

When the rules first came out up to 2490 wat ok, Now the speed is involved, if it can reach more than 25 klm regardless of wat you need a plaka.

With the requirement for a plaka does this mean that insurance is also required?

Re: E Bikes

Yes. Plus a helmet! Basically the rules are the same as a 50cc bike or scooter....

Re: E Bikes

Just bought a 'ST MAX gf980' (speedo shows 25/26 k/h) but not sure what the wattage is, the only site that seems to show any info is not very forthcoming, so can anyone help,

Ok thanks, already made arrangements for the NOTRE on Tuesday so might just as well follow through and save the possibility of a fine if ever pulled over.

Re: E Bikes

The speed on your speedo isn't the actual speed it can do
Mine ( a 3 wheeler 2 seater) is quoted in the stats as being able to do 33 kph, yet even with a full charge and new batteries can only do 23 kph maximum
If you ask at one of the bike shops they will all tell you the figures quoted as against the actual speeds are miles apart
Because of the narrow rear wheelbase when cornering , mine ( as all other 3 wheelers ) is governed down
