Foster homes wanted - Side area

There is a group of us in Side who go to the dogs home in Manavgat each week to give some tlc to the animals there. Recently we have taken out 12 puppies and dogs who have been ill, these have been taken to the vets and 10 have recovered, unfortunately one died and one was put to sleep by the vet. We have also rescued kittens from the home and these have been taken to the vets for treatment.

We are now urgently requiring foster homes for the animals. Anyone fostering an animal will have all vets bills paid, food provided and if required transport to take it to the vets if any further medical attention is needed.

Either short term or longer term fostering would be welcome.

If anyone is interested in helping these animals who have had such a bad time so far in their lives, please pm me.

I have attached a picture of Bones who I am currently fostering, he was removed from the home as he had distemper. He is now recovered from this and as his name implies he is very thin, so good food and tlc is on the menu.

Re: Foster homes wanted - Side area

Well done for taking 'Bones' Sue.

If it's possible to take pictures of the animals that desperately need fostering, whether it be the cats or the dogs, and post them on TLF, I'm sure some of our TLF members who are permanent residents here in Side would step forward as willing to foster.

Possibly, the occasional full-time home could also be found from more detailed publicity?

Step forward David Bailey!!!

This is a real big problem in the Tuzla area I know of 3 different litters within a 2 km area - storing up many problems - especially 'out of season'...

I do not understand this, why do you need to go there and how come you needed to take action and remove the puppies more surprising how come they let you?

What sort of place is this supposed dogs home?

It is a dog shelter for abandoned/street dogs. As I'm sure you know the government has implemented a scheme where all major towns should be setting up such a facility (although many haven't)

I don't think it's a case of having to remove the puppies, probably more down to the fact that conditions are not ideal for sick animals as the budget doesn't really stretch to individual care beyond medical treatment.

The dogs have a far higher chance of a full physical and emotional recovery if they can experience a loving home early on in life. It would also follow that these animals would then have a higher chance of finding a suitable permanent home if they are used to a domestic life rather than having grown up in a restricted pen full of other dogs.

These fantastic people who help out at the shelter mainly walk the dogs I think, otherwise they would be penned for the greater percentage of their lives.

In answer to your question, the dogs home is a very basic and poorly funded shelter....But it's the best we can hope for in a country where a dog owner can be cooing over their litter of pups one day and bashing them over the head with a rock the next....And before you hit the roof that is a fully justified statement...My neighbour did exactly this just last week and a few weeks before a friend who lives just down the road from me found a large bag by the bin on his street. There was blood coming from it so he had a look and found a very healthy looking bitch and 8 puppies all killed inhumanely and dumped like rubbish.

Yes we are lucky enough to have an animal shelter but the foreigners here need to realise that it is not the same as a British pound. These government shelters need as much help as they can get and I applaud those who give selflessly of their time to improve the quality of life of the animals who find themselves there.

Re: Foster homes wanted - Side area

Hello every one, we're on holiday at the moment in Side and we've foolishly taken in an abandoned dog.
So now we're spending our holiday trying to fin a home for her.
She is small female golden retriever, very calm and very we'll behaved, about 12 to 18 months old..
She was found tied up at the electrical sub station by the new school and Tuesday market place.
She will make a great companion for someone.
We're exploring different options but we don't like the sound of the the animal shelter in Manavgat but we are running out of time.
If any one can help we will pay for her jabs and for her to be spayed.
Hope the attachment works
Many thanks

Good news!
Thanks to Malin at the friends restaurant Side, we have found a forever home for this beautiful little girl.
A close friend of theirs was looking for a dog like her and she will be with him all day at his office and then at home with his family at night. His affection for her was obvious as soon as they met.
Happy days!
