Smile Adoption of puppy

Hi there

Just wanted to say we took on a puppy last weekend that had been dumped on the main road next to where we live. He wandered up to our house and we got home to find him sitting behind the gate with our two dogs. He's a happy little chap and after much debate we decided to give him a forever home and save him from the frightening life he would have had on the street or in a dog shelter. I just thought I'd share a bit of happy news when there are so many sad stories about homeless animals in Turkey.

Nice One Jakebeake,we got a dog from Didim dog shelter two and a half years ago,and look after a street dog as well, all they need is love, not two weeks fuss from holiday makers(don't mean to sound harsh)my wife never imagined ever having a dog and now she would never be without ours.Happy Days.

Re: Adoption of puppy

Well done jakebeak. Wish there were more like you, even better, I wish people would not just dump dogs/puppies/cats etc. Actually, seeing all the sad homeless animals just looking for a loving home really spoils my holidays in Turkey.

Re: Adoption of puppy

Spaying is the only answer all my cats are spayed and we have helped several people spay theirs please spread the message. Taking a street cat or feeding one without spaying only allows them to breed more also please dispel the myth '' they need to have one litter'' no they don't that merely adds to the problem.

Wink Re: Adoption of puppy

Thanks for all your posts. What a great response! The little fella is doing well and we're going out to get him a new bed and a collar today. He's getting used to our other pets right now. Our two cats have been very good with him. They're ten years old and it's been a bit of a strain to have a puppy in the house!! Our other dogs are good with him.

I agree about spaying. Our cats and dogs are spayed/neutered and it's the only way to stop all these thousands of cats and puppies you find on the street. It's a very difficult situation in Turkey. There are a lot of issues around animals here.

We have one dog from the local shelter whose owner couldn't manage him. She was an old lady and he kept pulling her over. He'd been in the shelter for three weeks and was just about to be put on the street when we took him on. That was back in 2009. Our second dog was a street dog who just followed me home from the local shop! Every year we get new dogs on our site and we're kind to them but there is a limit as to how many you can take on. We have a friend who is a farmer locally and he has twenty dogs on his farm and at the moment 12 puppies!! He does have a lot of land though.

Anyway, I'll let you know how the little guy is doing and when we've sorted out some photos I will post them.

Happy Days!!

Re: Adoption of puppy

So happy to hear you have a new family member, my dog and cats are all rescue animals.

This summer I have been feeding a kangal mix who had obviously been dumped, one tourist paid for her to be spayed and joy of joys she has been adopted by a Norwegian tourist and her plane ticket to her new life is booked for the 15th January. At present she is in local kennels and I visit her twice a week. I know I will cry buckets when she goes but they will mostly be tears of joy for the country life she will be having.

Sue

Re: Adoption of puppy

I do like a happy ending! Our new puppy is enjoying being outside at the moment with our "big dogs". It's so sad to think though that anybody could possibly dump a dog to fend for itself. I hate animal cruelty.

Re: Adoption of puppy

So do I !!! I can never understand why people get them for amusement during their holidays and then just dump them on main roads. May they rot in hell !!
