does anyone care?
i am an animal lover through and through and i do rescue work for various organisations in the UK but when i recently went to Turkey it really did sadden me to see the poor dogs sleeping under a tiny little bush or just standing and gazing out with lifless eyes and people walking by didnt give them a second glance my husband included.
I appreciate that the Turkish dogs are not always as approachable as in the UK and you have to be careful but it almost reduced me to tears to see these dogs with absolutely no where to go.
i saw 2 puppies no more than 16 weeks each in different parts of one town.My husband just didnt care and yet i wanted to just take them home and do "something" with them but i know me being a bit sentimental wont make the slightest bit of difference.
Are there any rescue places in Turkey ? charities etc, i wouldnt mind donating something to help.
i know terrible atrocities occur in different countries and these dogs are in no way tortured like some animals are but they did tug at my heart strings.
if anyone knows of any charities in turkey and send me a link or two i would appreciate to see what work is being done.
Jackie

Re: does anyone care?
Hi,
I know how you feel. It really is a great pity to see these (usually) very friendly dogs with nowhere to go.
The answer to your question is yes there is one very good organisation in Altinkum (you dont say which resort you were in) which is doing a great job but always welcomes any help.

Re: does anyone care?
There are several animal shelters in the SW of Turkey. Some of them are affiliated to the RSPCA.
Also, many people "adopt" dogs when they are over here. The problem is made worse when the season ends and the food becomes harder to come by.
What you have to understand is that the Turks have different attitude to the keeping of pets than many Europeans. There are religious and cultural reasons for the way in which they treat dogs. In general dogs are for guarding property, and aren't kept for companionship.
Here's a link for you

Put Turkey, stray, dogs into Google and you'll see that there's loads of info available.

Re: does anyone care?
Hi Jackie - there is an excellent organisation in Fethiye which is 'Fethiye Friends of Animals Society'. Once contacted they will collect the animal(s) take them to the centre, treat them, neuter them if not already done, innoculate them and then put a tag on their ear which will show by colour which year they were treated - so that they can be done again the following year - and either find a new home for them or if appropriate release them back to where they were found.
This releasing may seem a little harsh but, especially in the case of cats, is necessary for the control of vermin, snakes etc.
You will be able to find the web site forFethiye Friends of Animals Society who rely on donations from the public to keep their excellent centre going. We have visited their Centre - it is immaculately clean and so well run set in beautiful grounds with large compounds for the dogs to enabe them to run freely. Regards andbest wishes. Glenys

Re: does anyone care?
Glynis ,
i have found releasing animals sometimes is the best for them, if they are totally feral then they would suffer terribley in confinment where as if released they are living the life they are used to and were born into.
thank you for your replies.
My husband thinks im completely barking he cannot comprehend why i feel sorry for these animals but i guess i can educate him lol
