pet passports short term stays
Hi, I am just looking to purchase a place in kas and have a small dog who when I go there for 6 weeks + would want to take her with me.
Can you do this in Turkey does it work the same as in eec countries where you get the passport and then get the pet certified by vet before you leave UK and then again by turkish vet before you enter back into UK.
Any help appreciate
Thanks
Sue

Hi Sue,
Unfortunately pet passports do not apply in Turkey and on return to Britain your dog would have to spend the 6 months in quarantine.

Re: pet passports short term stays
I was at the vets here today in Scotland and we were talking about the pet passport scheme, he asked would it not be possible to take your pet (with a pet passport) from Turkey to a neighbouring country, then fly from there to the UK avoiding quarantine? (providing that your pet passport is up to date and injections etc are up to date..)
sorry - I just read a post further down on the forum and it says you cannot take dog from neighbouring country unless animal has stayed there for 6 months..
therefore I have answered my own question... (must remember to keep taking the meds..)

Re: pet passports short term stays
It is possible (providing you plan to spend enough time in Turkey) to get a pet passport from a neighbouring country, i know because i've done it. The process takes about 7 months. You can go between Turkey and Greece on the boat or Hydrofoil with no problems at all as long as you have the upto date paperwork.
The only downside is that you will then have to travel in and out of that neighbouring country.
