Transporting pets in cabin
Hi Maggie,
Couldn’t get a PM to you, so posted here as it may be useful for others also.
We had no problems bringing our cat in the cabin of the plane with us. We used Romanian Airlines Tarom (one domestic flight and the international leg to Istanbul) and Turkish Airlines THY (Istanbul to Dalaman).
We carried the cat in the cabin with us in a standard plastic cat box that can be bought in any pet shop, although it’s theoretically 5 cm too high, and had no problems whatsoever (well – nothing really).
We booked well in advance, as airlines limit the number of pets carried in the cabin to 2 or 3, depending on the aircraft. There was a small additional charge, theoretically based on the weight of the cat as excess baggage if I remember right, but we didn’t get charged anything like that, it was maybe 20 euros in Romania and maybe 10 pounds on THY.
I had all the pet passport, injections, micro-chip etc., but absolutely nothing was checked by anyone at any airport. If I did it again I’d still get everything necessary, though, for the small cost it’s not worth taking any risk.

Anything else just ask.
