Transporting dogs by car

OK guys - you need to read my "transporting dogs by air". Having watched by beloved dobbie dog actually pooh herself with fear tonight over a loud bang I really thing that air travel may be too much!
Has anyone ever bought pets into turkey by car. I can imagine it being a nightmare with paperwork, but paperwork is better than a dog dead with fright!

Jane, paper work should not be a problem, you would drive through eu countries, so you would get a pet passport...(not a requirement for turkey, but fine if you have one..)

would be a long drive, and cars can only be imported here for 6 months..

you could speak to your vet about sedation...though they not keen on doing that for travel.. ask ur vet though

I think KayaKoyuOldBoy made a post about bringing dogs by car as he looked into the possibility, but there was something about having to pay £230 for each country you passed through. I may have got my figures wrong, but look it up.
Found it!! Did get my figures wrong:

was originally going to bring the dogs overland until I found that legally they required paperwork for each country that they would be transiting through. At £250 per dog per country, it was no longer worth considering.

It could be a bit easier now that the Balkan States have joined the EU. However, I think the 96 hour limit on the paperwork is still in force.

But, do you really want to spend 5 or 6 days travelling in the car with your nervous dog?

Jane I understand where you are coming from as Henry is very very nervous and i was exactly the same as you before we came (ask poor KKOB and Jane2005 ) I was a pain in the backside asking questions etc

I wasn't banking on the airport staff being so good and remember they have done this so many times before. We too thought about coming over land but Henry is a baby in the car so in the end we went for the quickest possible way.

Please try not to worry, I got myself in a terrible state before we came here and all because of our big dopey hound I had even arranged for a vet to meet us at Dalaman just incase he needed attention because of his nerves!! He is ten years old and I have to say I thought he would never never make it. After the journey he didn't seem any different he just seemed to take it all in his stride and now he is as happy as Larry , we were so shocked but very relieved.

I hope this has helped you
