Smile Transporting big dog in a large van

Hi can any one help as read so much about bring dogs in by car and also about bringing in furniture and electrical belongings. I want to bring a rotty by road to Brindisi and then ferry with a long wheeled based van with personal belongings such as bike, cloths, books etc. The van wont be full but dont want my rotty travelling by air and know she would be much more relaxed in the front seat of the van. Now do i pay any tax on these personal items or is it just furniture and electrical goods - which i wont have? Do i need any sort of documents for such a big van although it wont be staying in Turkey.
Does anyone know when the ferries shut down for winter? Not got a date to move over yet but hopefully will be before Christmas if the ferries are still running.
Any other useful information would be grateful

We brought our Mastiff over in April but we flew him - I was so scared he wouldn't make it as he is ten years old but he was fine and BA who we flew with were brilliant. We didn't need a pet passport as we didn't go through Europe but you will need to get your dog a passport if you are driving. DEFRA will tell you exactly what you need for the dog.

Thanks Gail. I have got a pet passport and all the necessary information about paperwork from Defra but really want to go in the van then i can take all my possessions. I am going for good and dont want to leave all my "past" in England. Also i think it will be fun to do it by road. I did it in an Astra about 4 years ago to Brindisi in Italy and it wasnt that bad especially as i had mother-in-law as a back seat driver! AA router reckon it will only take 29 hours to Brindisi at the normal speed limits.

bandrole tax is for items that receive broadcasting signals, so you wont have anything to pay if you dont have these items

the van will be allowed to be in Turkey for 6 months only

have a look here for information on cars, pets etc

I think you will find that the Marmara Lines Brindisi ferry has stopped running for this year, which is why I showed Ancona. There may be other ferry companies running from Brindisi.

The following was taken from the Kusadasi Forum site, there is loads more information regarding driving to Turkey, so it might be good for you to join the forum to read and ask more info from the people who have driven to Turkey.

http://forum.kusadasi.biz/

1.We went through the euro tunnel in the uk and straight down to italy into Ancona and you get the ferry across to Cesme in Turkey this is the easiest route i think

2.It toke me 6 days and then 2 days on the boat from Italy. It was expensive going through France as the tolls are very expensive.. I am hoping to go again this year but i will go from hook of holland down through Germany and into Italy. Looks to be a little cheaper for Toll charges. We spent about €250 on petrol and tolls were about €200 through France. The boat trip from Italy then cost us €650 for 2 of us in a cabin on the boat. I reckon if you go through Germany you might cut some of the Tolls. Also you will need to allow some money for accomadation. We stayed in mainly campsites which were really nice in Italy.. cost about €15 per person a night in a cabin

3.OK folks, I have driven to Kuşadası from uk, pıece of p***. Tunnel or ferry, and head straight down to Switzerland and into Italy. You can either get a ferry at Venice or do what I do and whack on down the west side of Italy, round Rome and then cross over and head for Brindisi or Bari. You can get a ferry that sails at night to Igoumenitsa in Greece and chucks you out about 4am. Clog across greece to Ipsala, then head for the Çannakale ferry virtually operates 24hrs. then bingo head for Izmir and there you are! If anybody wants elaboration, mail me.

Are you REALLY sure you want to spend up to week travelling with the dog when you can get it out here safely on a 4-5 hour flight?

Hi Sopcaz,
Brindisi is a very busy terminal carrying containor trucks etc to İgoumenitsa etc.and not just tourism. If you get to Brindisi, there are a selection of ferry C0s. I turned up at around 5.30 pm and was on the 7 pm. to İgoumenitsa. You go to the ticket desk and he will put you on the next available ferry. For the life of me I cannot remember the cost, but I know I was well pleased. When you get off in the early hours, about 4 am you get a good crack at getting across greece unheeded by other traffic.
Because you have a van, the officials at the gate will almost certainly want a look inside, but just ordinary stuff as you describe will present no problems. Our cat was laying on the top of all our stuff in the car and they didn't give a toss about paperwork or anything for her. Just make sure you have correct insurance at the gate for the motor, (green card or similar) as the first box you arrive at before entering the compound at Ipsala is the copper who checks your papers.(I believe you can buy top-up ins. for Turkey at the little office opposite the PTT in the customs compound building), as most insurance companies will only cover you for 'Thrace' which only just covers the tip of Turkey I believe. No need to take toll rds in France at all, the by- roads are very good and many run alongside the 'peages'. As you will no doubt drop into Switzerland from France, you will be also req. to buy a tax sticker at the border (about 20eu if I remember right) so you can use the motorway system. Have a good drive, and any queries do not hesitate to PM me as I have driven extensively throughout Europe.
