House Training a Street Dog

I know that when we relocate to Turkey I will end up adopting a street dog. I am wondering for those of you who have adopted an adult dog whether they are easy to house train, as any dog I adopted would live in the house.

Re: House Training a Street Dog

There are a few success stories here
http://www.turkishliving.com/forums...treet-dogs.html

Our dog does not live inside (her choice at the moment) but she sleeps on our veranda which is enclosed with PVC in the winter and she cannot get out overnight. "Touch wood" never had an accident and never had to train her.

I do know that as neighbours we have discussed the fact that adopted street dogs appear to be clean and also they are happy to go out and piddle in the rain, which is more than can be said for the "Brit" dogs.

All the street dogs i have adopted have been very easy to train - they seem to know that they must not do anything wrong now they have a good home - they are so very eager to please and so loyal
And yes mine also go out into the rain for a wee - dont mind getting wet !

Hello paddington bear

Our adult dog lives inside with us and he is a very clean, very house proud dog.

Even from the start he never once went to the toilet in our home - he always waited for his walks.

Its a though he knew he was lucky to have a home and didn't want to ruin it - he respects our place.

Good Luck for when you relocate to Turkey - if ever give a street dog a new home I guarantee you will feel a big sense of satisfaction.

When we come over to live I just know as dog lovers we won't be able to resist. Our only concern is what will happen when we visit England? Is there a language barrier?

When we visited England, a Turkish friend looked after our dog for the week but this wasn't ideal for us. Once you get to know a few people in the area where you live, we're sure you will always find someone who will be willing to help you out for a week or so.
Our dog understands English very well now, but he also understands Turkish for some commands. We found it better to teach him in English because the words roll straight off our tongues rather than having to think of what the Turkish is for a particular command , which may not have the desired effect when said about 30 seconds too late!

Hi Glen - when you visit uk you will NOT be able to bring your dog from Turkey
( 6 months quarintine )
Also i recomend that you try to find Brits to look after your dog if away because believe me Turks ( no matter how nice they seem ) DO NOT care for the dogs like we do !
My dogs understand both English & Turkish commands
When i first got Murphy in August he did not understand a word of english so he was obviously used to being in a Turkish envirement
