Re: Animal Activists. Mad Or What ?
Do sheep have rights? They (quite rightly) have laws and standards to protect their welfare but I am not sure if they have rights. Anyway I am sure a long and expensive trek to the European Court of Animal Rights will establish the truth.
If they can't be clipped then I suppose they will be humanely slaughtered and the animal welfare people will be happy and the sheep will be happy knowing their rights were not infringed.

Surely the sheep has the right to have the winter garments removed during the start of the wheather warming up.
These sheep will cotton eventually that their has been a change in policy,in the banning of sheep stripping, that they will hold their banners high, parading in front of the council building, claiming ,their sheep rights have been infringed,by interfering humans.

I don't know about losing the plot, but if they take this to the extreme then we will all lose the thread!!

Re: Animal Activists. Mad Or What ?
Sheep grow wool continuously. If they are not sheared at least once per year they can become very uncomfortable and stressed, especially when it is hot and humid.
Imagine what it would be like walking around in Turkey in August with your winter clothes on!
A new directive for farmers. They now have to go on a course and get a certificate,to teach them how to load and transport their animals.Different course for different animals! A large fine if they are caught transporting livestock with no certificate.

Re: Animal Activists. Mad Or What ?
Mind you, it always make me laugh when in Turkey we see 100+ sheep strolling along the road with just one shepherd and a dog.
In the UK it would take at least 3 men, a couple of dogs, quad-bikes and a closure of the road !

Not here in Wales for sheep Alan.We have one farmer that moves about 90 horses 4 miles by road each year and yes that one needs quite a lot of manpower to direct the horses to the new grazing.Quite a sight to see them galloping by.
