Re: Help with our wee dog!!
Your normally allowed 6kg including the cage. We purchased a "Pet Bag" for out poodle when flying. She now weights around 6kg herself but her bag is around .5 of a kg...so close they always let us through to travel in cabin. We have flew to America three with her, both time she was in the cabin, so far the ticket agent always sat my wife and I with a empty seat between us( when the flight's not full). That's a 12 hours flight so I don't know what Turkish Airlines has such a rule for flights over 1 hour on a 737. If people are allowed to fly 4 hours on a 737 why can't a pet? Can you put them in Cargo? You need to be careful that it is properly climate controlled though and are a pet friendly carrier with cargo. My wife says she has found Turkish airlines the easiest to deal with regarding pets. She recommends calling Turkish airlines IN Turkey and get this sorted out.

Re: Help with our wee dog!!
We were told to book the dogs on a flight we hoped to get on, then book ourselves. That way if we couldn't get on the flight, we could just cancel the dogs booking. Whereas the other way round doesn't work if you need to cancel. Now you are in a spot, the only thing I can suggest is that you get a friend or relative to fly out with her at a later date. Do your homework though. It IS a terrible worry and you get so much conflicting advice, sadly.

Re: Help with our wee dog!!
Thanks every one for your replies, we have just been quoted another £350 for an agent to deal with our dog including more airfares for my son and I, that is if Turkish airlines will refund.
My wife is planning to return to the UK in June so she might bring our dog then via another route.
Thanks again folks.

Re: Help with our wee dog!!
Just to let you know that unlike some others I have not mis-informed you. Some airlines allow pets in the cabin if they are a dog or a cat and small enough to fit in a proper carrier. Turkish Airlines have a one pet per flight rule on most flights. We have flown from Istanbul to Bodrum and there were three other dogs and a cat on the flight. All were small enough though. Just wanted you to be aware I was not misleading you, thanks.

Re: Help with our wee dog!!
There have been quite a few posts on the forum saying that Turkish Airlines do allow a cat or small dog in a carrier in the cabin.

Re: Help with our wee dog!!
From the Turkish Airlines website..........
Traveling with pets
1. Can I travel together with my pet in cabin?
Sure, but first of all you need a reservation for your pet (only dogs, cats). These animals are accepted in standard boxes, which are 45x35x23 cm, and the passengers should provide these boxes. Passengers have to carry the live animal’s health/vaccination certificates with them. Total weight of the animal together with the box must not exceed 6 kg. These animals can be maximum 2 dogs sharing the same box. 2 cats are not allowed in the same box. Total number of animals on a flight may differ according to the aircraft type. These animals must be clean, scentless and harmless. If the animal is not under certain conditions, station staff has the right not to accept the animal to the flight.
NOTE: Transportation of live animal in cabin is done according to origin transit, transfer or destination point country laws. For further information please contact to Reservation Department.
2. How will I be able to carry my pet that exceeds cabin standards?
Pets (dogs, cats) weigh heavier than 6 kg, have a box/cage bigger than 45x35x23 cm will be transported in the cargo compartment of the aircraft. Passengers have to carry the live animal’s health/vaccination certificates with them. These animals can be maximum 2 dogs sharing the same box/cage. 2 cats are not allowed in the same box/cage. Maximum 3 baby animals, which are born from the same mother at the same time, can be transported in the same box/cage (Until 6 months). Total number of animals on a flight may differ according to the aircraft type. These animals must be clean, scentless and harmless. Females must not be pregnant. Containers must be large enough so that the animal can stand upright or lie down in comfort. If the animal is not under certain conditions, station staff has the right not to accept the animal to the flight.
NOTE: Transportation of live animal is done according to origin transit, transfer or destination points country laws. Please contact to Reservation Department.
3. Do I pay for carriage of my pet?
Without taking into consideration passengers’ free baggage allowance, pet is weighed together with the box and charged as excess baggage. For USA and Canada flights, determined charge is applied
