I saw one in Didim centre, couple of miles from Altinkum beach, saw a cat waiting outside for the place to open, I think the cat was on its own, maybe gets some treats there

Stray dogs in Altinkum

Hi everybody,

There is a meeting tomorrow to discuss the situation of the stray dogs in Altinkum. Love them or hate them they are a fact of life and a lot of people are unhappy about their treatment, also many people have voiced that they are often quite intimidated by them.
Will keep you informed of any decisions made after the meeting.

It is in the Parasol bar at 5pm Sunday

I noticed quite a few in Fethiye when I was there last year, I think there is a charity setup there to care for them and neuter them.

Is there anything like that in Altinkum?

Never seen any while in Side, there were quite a few at Ladies Beach i was told that in the winter someone (who i do not know) collected some of the dogs then i do not know what happened to them, never seen the same stray dog any next year we went.
There were lots in Altinkum, all friendly one had 8 pups.

Yes I must say the dogs in Altinkum are friendly. We take our dog to the beach frequently now it is quiet and we have never had any problems with the dogs. Hazel who is a well known figure around Altinkum tring to find homes for the stray dogs and puppies has got the meeting together after a dog was shot. Do not know the whole story but this incident seems to have instigated the meeting. Most people we have met are very kind to the dogs and they still seem well fed without holiday makers. Hazel is hoping to start some sort of neutering programme here to cut down the numbers.

There are also plenty of cats, our complex in Akbuk has quite a gang that seem to adopt holidaymakers during the summer, don't know what happens to them during the winter months.

Hi Carmag
I know Clair at turkish homes also has a soft spot for the street dogs as she told me she often buys pasta and cooks it for them, she was also talking of setting up a book lending service and when people borrowed a book they paid a small amount for it and the money made would go towards dog food.I have never come accross a nast one,and many times i have seen the shops and cafes etc.. feed them.
Someone told me that they saw a couple of dogs frozen to death in the winter.
Let us know the outcome..
