taking a dog out of Turkey

Is anyone able to advise on the paperwork needed to leave Turkey with a dog. I am meaning literally crossing the border to Greece for example. Is it the same as returning to the UK.?

Up to date Pet passport.
Take fleabag back and forth to Bg all the time.
No problem at all so I would assume Greece would be the same..

Re: taking a dog out of Turkey

If you have an EU pet passport, and have kept all Rabies vaccinations in date you may enter any EU country you are required to have your dog must be treated for tapeworm 24 hrs before arrival at the border and not more than 120 hrs (five Days).

Please note the validity of a rabies vaccination is only 1 year in Turkey and many other countries those with high percentage of rabies, unlike the UK where it is valid for 3 years. so make sure it is still in date.

If you do not hold a valid EU pet passport the process is little more complicated, and the timeline is longer. If you have any question please do hesitate to contact us we are licensed pet transporters and keep up to date with any changes in requirements for pet travel.

Phil Johns is the one to listen to....................he does it for a living. Always on "tender hooks" on the Greek/Turkish crossing, done it loads of times but you just do not know who or what you are going to come up against. Yet to come across anyone there who speaks English & all seem a right miserable bunch. Be careful if its this time of the year, bad weather across Europe & they shut the motorways down with you on it.................full tank of juice, flask, a quilt & Sat Nav is a must. The only fore is that the ferries are a lot cheaper "out of season", but I would not book any, there is always room this time of the year.

Good luck.

Re: taking a dog out of Turkey

We can do it ourselves if the process is the same as for UK, I just wondered. We have a pet passport for 1 as she came from the UK. Thanks for the information, it just sets my mind at ease.

Re: taking a dog out of Turkey

The requirements to take animals into any EU country from Turkey are the same. Without a pet passport, you need to get animal chipped, vaccinated, blood taken, 1 month after rabies jab, sent away for testing, 3 months(90 days) from the date the blood was taken animal can go into EU with a Veterinary Certificate issued by Turkish Government Vet and dogs have to be wormed 24hrs before entry this is also recorded and time given on vet cert. AS stated Phil Johns will know all about crossings into Bulgaria and Greece. He brought our two dogs back last Sept and had a problem at Bulgarian Border crossing from Turkey so had to make a detour into Greece then into Bulgaria.
