Sedapet...

https://www.thepetcentre.co.nz/small.../epw57219.aspx

But at $50+ I doubt any vets will be stocking it here.

If I google Sedapet it comes up in Turkish so maybe there is a Turkish version.

Valentyna will be visiting later this month and I'll ask her to stock up.

Re: Bringing pet cat to Turkey (through Antalya Airport)

I know we have slightly gone off topic here, but it has helped me alot after Hijo mentioning Sedapet. I have done some searches and now just ordered a spray for my cat, which is being sent to a friend in the UK who will bring it out to Cyprus ( cant trust the post to North Cyprus) for me just in time for our departure for Turkey. Thanks Hijo and Jaycey too for the link that prompted my search. xx

Re: Bringing pet cat to Turkey (through Antalya Airport)

Thanks everyone. We have done all the paperwork required, just need to take Mr Poo to the vet the day before flying to sign off on his health check. So it seems that probably the safest bet would be to fly Turkish Airlines so I can get him on the flight as hand luggage, arrive at Istanbul airport to clear customs, and then domestic flight onwards to Antalya. Rather than Thomas Cook, where he'll get bunged in the hold, and we may or may not be allowed through Antalya customs with the cat.

I think he might need some of that sedative too, he meows like crazy when he's being transported. I'll check with the vet...

Bloody hard getting good, up to date info about Turkey, it's not like the good old gov.uk website is it. Plus with the variation among Turkish officials as to what laws and regs they actually decide to uphold on the day.

Glad you have got everything sorted, regarding up to date info in Turkey and variations among Turkish officials etc, I'm afraid that is the norm and you just have to live with it, it will get very frustrating at times, but worth it. Good luck with your move. xx

Re: Bringing pet cat to Turkey (through Antalya Airport)

Hi all, just wanted to give a brief update on this. I got everything in place for the journey - DEFRA export certificate done, rabies vaccinations done and rechecked and confirmed, vet health check the day before flying all done. The vet gave us a free sample of Pet Remedy spray to keep the cat calm on the flight too so that was great.
Flight was booked with Turkish Airlines, and after booking I called them to make sure the cat could fly in the cabin rather than the hold. They put that all through and confirmed with me that that was approved and on the system.
So then had to buy an airline approved pet carrier, which needed to be the right dimensions to fit under the seat in front while flying. That's all on Turkish Airlines website under their flying with pets info... Also read something online suggesting getting a leash for the journey in case you need to take the cat out of the carrier. This was excellent advice and I am glad I used one, I did have to take him out at Manchester Airport and at Istanbul Airport (mainly so security could scan the carrier bag).
So yep, I was fully prepared, with papers in hand, ready to answer any questions from officials at any point of the journey. Manchester Airport no one was interested in checking the papers. Istanbul Airport no one was interested. Antalya Airport no one was interested. Basically walked straight through at every point, I was actually volunteering the papers but they didn't want to look at them.
Bit annoying, cost us quite a bit for all the vet stuff, but at least we got him over here unscathed. Probably worth doing just to make sure all the ts are crossed and is are dotted, but still...
Meanwhile Mr Poo is happy as Larry in his new home and it really was a painless process, so it's all good.

Re: Bringing pet cat to Turkey (through Antalya Airport)

We bring our dog over, overland, and nobody has ever checked anything on the outward journey.
Checks made at Channel tunnel going into UK.
Just be aware I recently received notification that it could all change due to Brexit.
The UK Govt website has been updated which looks at all scenarios re Brexit.
