Bringing pet cat to Turkey (through Antalya Airport)

Hi all, I'm a newbie to the forum. Moving to Antalya in a couple of weeks, I'm just wondering about bringing a pet cat into Turkey with me on our flight. I've read a lot of different things about this from various sources (airline websites, blogs, forums, etc), the latest on it on from "docmartins surgery for expats in turkey" says there is an embargo on bringing pets through airports other than Istanbul. Has anyone else done this recently, or does anyone know what the situation is regarding this? Any help would be appreciated, haven't booked our flights yet so may have to consider coming in on Turkish Airlines via Istanbul if that's the case...
Nice forum btw, I've been lurking for months!

Re: Bringing pet cat to Turkey (through Antalya Airport)

We’ve been taking our bonsai poodle in & out of Antalya, Dalaman & Trabzon airports for years.

No problem as long as the required docs are in place.

Re: Bringing pet cat to Turkey (through Antalya Airport)

Thanks Jaycey. Have you flown since say mid-2017, when the article on Doc Martins was published? Who do you fly with, I was thinking Thomas Cook, bring the cat as hand luggage (rather than in the hold) in a small pet carrier... I do have all the documentation, got the cat vaccinated, de-rabied, etc, so I think we're all good as far as that goes. Did you ever have to get your poodle checked by a vet on arrival? My mrs had heard something about Tuesday mornings being the only time a vet was at Antalya Airport, so pets get put into quarantine at the airport until the vet can see them.

Re: Bringing pet cat to Turkey (through Antalya Airport)

I don't think Thomas cook allow pets as hand luggage, although I may be wrong. However, you must have all the correct documents. Please see your vet who can guide you through the process if you have not already done so.

Re: Bringing pet cat to Turkey (through Antalya Airport)

We flew into Trabzon via Pegasus Septemberish last year no problems.

Our Mitzi was never examined either on arrival or departure (except for a b*** sniffer dog that wanted to make more intimate acquaintance ). They seem to accept the decision of the passport vet provided it is within 10 (?) days of arrival/departure.

Our problem is that the vet certificate has to be translated from Russian to Turkish & notarized.

And no way we’d let Mitzi travel cargo. We always phone the airline prior to departure – I understand that only three passengers are allowed to have pets in cabin for any flight and then they must be placed under your seat. (We always cheat and hide her on our lap under a blanket).

But there is another member on here that specializes in pet transportation and no doubt he will be along shortly to correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks for that Juco I’ll have to find out if we can get Sedapet here, Mitzi hates her haircuts.

I recall my vet in Safrica having a long telephone conversation with a guy that said his pet was a nervous traveler.Turned out that the pet was a tarantula – wouldn’t fancy putting cream on those lips they have a nasty bite.

Where do you get Sedapet from Hijo, we are bringing our cat across from Cyprus to Fethiye at the end of this month and he makes such a noise. The vet did give us sedatives to give him, but they don't seem to work.
We are also using Turkish airlines and taking him into the cabin with us... heaven help the other passengers. xx

Sorry Hijo, please ignore.
