Puppy Injections
Hi
We have recently acquired a lovely little pup. She has just (today) had her second lot of injections and the vet said she can go out in 7-10 days.
Her safety is first and foremost but I also cant wait to take her out and show her to everybody. She is also bursting with energy to say the very least and Im sure would love it too.
This 7-10 days? How does it work? Is it safe to take her out on the 7th day, sit on the fence and go for 8 or 9 or wait the full 10. Or am I worrying too much?
Any advice would be good.
ps: Her name is Jasmine and she is a cross between a Bijon Frise and a Terrier.
Thanks
Lorraine

Re: Puppy Injections
Sounds a bundle of fun
All i would say is just watch what your puppy eats off the streets from around the hotels and restaurant as there are some schemes going on around Turkey poisoning meat used as bait, to reduce the numbers of strays around the resorts, and unfortunatley this is causeing great concern to all animal lovers from Europe,
As you are living in Bodrum you may already be aware of this

Re: Puppy Injections
Hi
Many thanks for your reply. No I had not heard of this but thanks for letting me know. She is very small so I will probably carry her most places to begin with but Ill definitely watch out for that. There are a lot of strays unfortunately but around our area some of them have such lovely natures. They just want a good loving home. Its a shame :-(
Thanks
Lorraine

Re: Puppy Injections
poisoning food for dogs is illegal. Not many places do this as it carries a hefty fine if they are caught (and let alone going against islamic teachings).
I am not saying it does happen and there was a scandal up here recently where a man was caught killing street dogs and got fined 600 YTL for each dog he killed. It was on the main news and animal rights groups are a growing faction here nowadays.

Re: Puppy Injections
Hi Starman
Thanks. Thats interesting. Do you know if they have anything the equivalent of the RSPCA here that cares for the welfare of animals?

Re: Puppy Injections
Take a look at www.straydogsturkey.org
It's the website for the dogs home in Fethiye which has a scheme operating throughout most of Turkey. It's gets some of it's backing from the RSPCA and from donations from doglovers.
We got a puppy from them about 3 weeks ago after one of our dogs was poisoned.

Re: Puppy Injections
Hi, keep her in for as long as you can as it takes at least 2 weeks for Jabs to kick in....and you will have years to show her off....and she sounds lovley.....just watch out for her eyes bichons tend to have watery eyes so try and keep her of the beach untill she gets older!

Re: Puppy Injections
Many thanks
Its funny you mentioned about the eyes. In the past week she has developed an eye infection. Vet says not serious and she is on a low dose of antibiotic. I do try to wipe her eyes daily and not let it get to the crusty stage at all.
Ill take a look at the website.

Re: Puppy Injections
Lorraine, those poisonings happen a lot in the bodrum area. My friend lynn lost two dogs to that method of stray control.....it is a shame.
good luck with your pup, who is your vet? we just love ahmet, but he may be out of the way for you to come into town for.
I am in the states right now, my sister has the most adorable pekinese.....
