Altinkum's Street Dogs
Not too sure where to post this, so mods if it is in the wrong place please move.
I could not believe the amount of stray dogs on the beach in Altinkum this year, at least 14, last year we only saw 1 on the beach, very upsetting to say the least.
At least some of the dogs have been tagged which is good news, but I was rather concerned about a bitch who isn't tagged, and has had pups sometime this year. She is an adorable, loving gentle dog, who came up and sat with me regularly, so I used to take food down for her, but she appears to have a problem eating, took her ages to eat small pieces of ham, is there any likelihood of her being caught, checked and tagged with the winter coming up?

Re: Altinkum's Street Dogs
This is a very sad thing all around Turkey. Many stray cats and dogs running around. I have to blame the owners who see the cute little puppies and then cannot face the responsibility once it becomes a bit older. Also they do not train their dogs very much. ( remember walkies !!!! ) Then when they are bored with it or it becomes a problem they toss them out on the streets. The governments should do something about controlling the stray animals and have them fixed or put up for adoption.

Yes I too have seen an increase in stray dogs this year. My family and I were sat in the swan bar one night and two dogs walked through and started doing the hyper hyper!! The kids thought it was funny but the waiters soon got rid of them

Re: Altinkum's Street Dogs
anyone wishing to decrease the street dogs in Altinkum can do so by donating to the shelter , as they run a neuter and release programme,
i will find the link for donations and add it on here.

Re: Altinkum's Street Dogs
Sadly this problem is not only confined to Altinkum.
Here in Kas we have an ongoing neutering programme. Mainly it is Europeans that raise the money for this. There are a few Turkish people involved. The problem here is mainly cats. There are so many kittens this year. Presently I am feeding 14 cats!!
Wherever you live, or visit, in Turkey - please help your local "charity" to address this problem. The more animals we can neuter, the better.

Re: Altinkum's Street Dogs
I have adopted a street cat or rather he has adopted us.
We have called him pussy cat Willum,he was very skinny when he first turned up at our door about two months ago,he had obviously not had much contact with humans as he was soo scared even if we took a small step towards him
Gradually he has gained in confidence and will let Nik stroke him he sleeps in a box on our patio and turns up like clockwork for his meals.Eventually i would like to try and contain him in a box and take him to the vets to be done he is spraying everywhere.
Its is sooo sad when you see all these stray animals on the streets we saw a poor little bedraggled kitten in Yanisher it was actually outside the vets apparently the vet was feeding it!!!!!It could barely stand up it look so thin.
As for the street dogs there are quite a few here in Akbuk they all seem to congregate down on the beach Im scared of dogs and a pack started to follow me last week needless to say I was pretty frightenned.
I think it is so sad as animals are suppossed to be pets not just left to wander the streets hoping that somebody might want to love and care for them.
You wouldnt just chuck your children out onto the street if you got fed up with them
(there again some people would)
Ow and by the way i do hope they manage to find those poor little monkeys and get them to a safer place.
hugs maggie xxxx
