Hi does anyone have any up to date information on procedure/costs for taking a cat to the UK from Turkey. Were hoping to travel early next year. I read on a website that my cat will have to stay in Quarantine for 6 months, its awful im gutted about it! Has anyone done it?
Any help/advice much appreciated.

Re: Taking cat to UK from Turkey
Hi thanks for your replies. Just to let you know i received an email from a quarintine holding place in the UK that work along side DEFRA, they told me the cost would be for everything ............ wait for it .................... £1,800!!!! OMG! Im gutted! Cant afford that. Looks like we will have to leave our cat with my mother in law. Im so upset but just dont have that sort of money to spend. If we decide to go to the UK i will be heartbroken!

Re: Taking cat to UK from Turkey
The most expensive part is the quarantine in the UK. You can expect to pay between 140GBP and 200GBP per month, a lot depending on where you are in the UK.
The cost of shipping over a single cat from Istanbul is approximately 600EUR, this including all paperwork, vets and processing fees. The carrier was BA and this was done in May of this year.
Why not try and do a deal with an authorised quarantine cattery close to wherever you're going to be in the UK?

Re: Taking cat to UK from Turkey
Sorry I know this does not help your dilemma but we are moving to Ovacik early next year, for 12 months initially, and I have reluctantly come to the conclusion that I cannot take Daisy (our cat) with us because of the quarantine costs. My daughter has very kindly offered to look after her for me - not sure how this will work out because she has two cats of her own. I am looking forward to moving to Ovacik and know I will be in regular contact with family and friends who will be coming out to visit but I am really going to miss Daisy.

But there is no quarantine at this end. There is no reason why you can't bring Daisy with you. I brought three cats with me.

Re: Taking cat to UK from Turkey
Maybe too late for this thread but insted of returning directly yo the UK with your cat you can stay in France for example for 6 months, before returning to the UK with your cat. This counts as the quarentine period and is alot cheaper.
Due to this system there are some catterys set up in France specially for this if you didnt or couldnt stay the 6 months with your cat.
The 6 months starts from when your cat had its Injection in Turkey before it travelled

Best place to start is with your vet over here. He can advise on jabs, etc. and provide you with the paperwork.

Lynd says she will stay in Turkey 12 months initially meaning a return to the UK may be on the cards.
