Can't get sim card to work.
Apolgies if this has been covered before, but I’m in work at present and don’t have the time to search through he archives for the answer to this one.
My wife arrived in Bodrum this morning and can’t get our Avea sim card to make or accept calls or texts. It was used last in mid-march, there were over 200 Kontors left on it then. We’ve tried calling it, sending texts but to all intents and purposes it’s switched off.
Anyone got an idea how I can get this sorted?
OR does it sound like the phone has been disabled by the telecom people in Turkey since it’s the same handset I previously used in March.
Cheers,
TJD

TJD,
You dont say, but I guess you are using a UK phone and Turkish Sim card. I would guess it has been disabled at the turkish end as part of the clampdown on unregistered phones.
Good luck - infuriating innit ? We use a UK 02 sim with int roaming and ping greece for cheap EU calls. Have you tried that ??

Re: Can't get sim card to work.
Cheers, you’re correct - UK phone, Turkish Sim. I guess Susan will have to run up to Makro and buy a cheap payg phone?
Have tried the greece option, works fine on Bitez beach but not up near the highway.

Either that, or the time has run out. You have to use Turkish Kontors within a certain time limit.

Re: Can't get sim card to work.
After 30 days of not using the phone it will lock up even though there are creidts on it, you need to buy another top up card and this re-activate it and you will also still get the credits you already have.

Re: Can't get sim card to work.
Thanks for your replies. My wife solved the problem, went out and bought a Turkish phone, stuck in the old sim card and it's working.
Let's see what happens next time we go over, if there's a problem then we'll just top up to get it going again.
Cheers,
TJD

Re: Can't get sim card to work.
hi. i spent 3 hours in turkcell bodrum last tues sorting this out. i arrived with3 uk mobs i used last year, when i arrived they were all blocked. i had to buy a cheap nokia payg 90 ytl inc turkcell som with 20 units on it. i had to what they call take out a contract with the turk nokia[need passport to do it]when i had done that they allowed me to register 2 of my blocked uk mobs. i put in a new turkcell sim in both uk mobs and they then worked. i bought 2 100 contour top up cards, and when i got back in uk all 3 phones were still working on turkcell system back in uk.then i put in star 122 star put in the top up number then hash then yes and lo and behold my contours appeared on the phone and you can do star 123 hash and you can see the contours . this way it means you can buy your scratch card in tky take it back to uk and before 3 months is up you can put the contours on in the uk and dont forget even though you have a turkish payg mob you must top up every 6 months or they will block the phone .even a turkish one . i think thats it .

I think you will find your Kontours are dormant after 3 months not 30 days and if not used within 6 months you also lose your number.

Re: Can't get sim card to work.
friar. did you read my post. they can be topped up in uk if you register the phone and take out a contract.it is free to take [they call it a contract] but you cannot do it unless you buy a turkish payg phone first .its best to buy it in the turkcell main office in bodrum [by marks and spencer top end of marina] by buying it in that shop they will register the turk mob plus 2 uk ones ,if you take them with you. even if they have been blocked once they have registered the turk 1 the uk ones come unblocked. and if you take home a turk 100 contour scratchcard to uk before the 3 months or 6 months is up you can scratch out the num and put it on while you are in the uk therefore you are avoiding losing existing contours or getting cut off after 6 months .ie wait say 5 months then put it on the phone in the uk. it is the only way you can top up a turk [or uk] mob while in the uk.you must register and take out [turks say ]a contract. i think it is their way of saying register.i have just come back and i have tried it and it works.
