Re: using english mobile?
Hi Dave
I find you still need the international dialing code 0090
eg for landlines 0090 533...........
or to turkish mobiles 0090 252.........
Be glad it didn't work - i just got my T Mob bill £200!
Next time i'm there I'll leave it at home, thats the third like that this year!
Hope this is right - it works for me ;0)

Re: using english mobile?
Also if someone rings your english mobile while you are in Turkey u get charged as well!!!! I had my pay as u go mobile with £5 credit on it and our son rang and it ate up all my credit, so really you get charged twice!!! So u should really stick to texts only and buy a telephone card these you can get from most stores and are excellent value i think it's 10 lira for 100 credits which i get in for our visitors when they are over so they can ring home and it lasts them the entire fortnight.

Re: using english mobile?
Yes it can be expensive using your mobile phone abroad especially when it's roaming. Their is a new sim out that you can order on line or pick up at the Airports. This is the link for it. Boots, WH Smith at Gatwick stock them. They did cost £29.00 but this included £10.00 of credit. Their is no time limit on them you keep the same number for ever.
Check it out: http://www.sim4travel.com/
Their is also this one: http://www.united-mobile.com/cms/we...93e7d7c874b129a
You will need to decide which is best for you.

Yep you get charged (£1.37 a call on O2) even if you don't pick the call up. We have a friends old nokia in turkey and I just put a 100 unit credit on it when I need to. For calling the UK we go in the PTT and call from there really cheap.

Re: using english mobile?
Dave, just dial 009 before any Turkish number that you want to call from your UK phone.

Yes Dave and this is regardless of whether you are in Turkey or the UK. Remember, whilst your phone defaults to roaming, this is only for the charges. Wherever you are in the world, your call bounces back to the UK and then to it's destination. Regarding receiving calls, likewise, but as the possibility is the person calling you may not know that you are abroad, then if your phone is in use, you will take the extra cost for the foreign call. Good Luck with your bills..As was already said, the phone cards are great value and can be got in most Supermarkets or beside most pay phones....Lorna

Re: using english mobile?
lol thats what I meant to say about the codes but my post wasn't clear!
Also worth mentioning that if your calls get diverted to your voicemail, this also costs you money, just for them to leave a message. (£1.30 per min T mob). So turn your voicemail off (expensive lesson)
I will look at the airport sim thing for myself- and def be buying cards for visitors!
