on reflection i think the answer to all this unable to rop up in uk even if you have registered your mob in turkey is because you have to get them to activate roaming [which i did ] the girl at turkcell told me that if anyone calls ands gives their turk num she can check whether you have it or not .and i think she said she can activate it from her end ,but and it is a big but ,if you dont have a scratch kontor card then even though she can activate it you still cant top up and after 210 you will lose the num.all you can do is if you have a friend in turkey who will buy a card for you and tex you the num here in the uk then you can put it on so long as roaming has been activated . she confirmed you need a turkish credit card in order for her to top up your mob [ they do not accept a uk credit card. hee hee i have a spare 100 kontor unscratched card ,how much am i offered .

i have a garanti bank account and you can do top up with garanti online with turkcell once you have a online password or pin

and today i have got a superpassword from turkcell which enables you to top up your mobile online from anywhere in the world.this superpassword has to be given by customer services out in turkey and can be obtained by phonecall.
biggles i registered my phone out in bodrum and yes i have roaming so if no i have a scratchcard which i do just send info through mobile and if i dont have any spare or i forget to bring one or two back i can now top up through garanti or turkcell online .
how would we cope without online facilities.

i have checked with budgetcom and it may well be that your provider charges more as it is a 0844 call but we are with bt and i think you get a connection charge of 5p then budgetcom charge 1p per min to landline turkey calls
its not very often you get any benefit with bt but looks like this is one of the times
this is alsoavailable for payphones

its a good job we didnt have to find this info out on our mobiles as there rates for return calls to turkey are crazy we would need 100s of scratch cards each

its took me 3 years to get this turk mobile thing sorted,i had 2 uk mobs blocked in the first 2 years,and 2 sims lost .

I have bought a new Nokia phone to get it registered for use in Turkey, i have the purchase receipt. Could anyone tell me the procedure of how to get this done at Bodrum airport and what to do next and how long it will take and what costs are involved, thanks.

Hi Dede.You just go to the nearest Turkcell or Telsim shop, depends who you are with, but they must be ' Extra ' Take your Passport and they will do it for you. Nothing to do with Customs any longer. Lots of Posts on here covering this subject just use the search facility at the top.

if you read all the info in this post you will see it is easy to register

but

make sure you open the roaming on it while in turkey

and also get the pin number/password from customer services if in uk
+90 212 4440532 77 for english

or type PASWORD and send to 2222 if in turkey

then they will forward a password to you so you can then add kontors online via there website

also bring back a few kontor scratch cards to top up just in case

1. so you can then top up with scratch cards add on by
* 122 * scratched number #
2.using a pin number obtained from turkcell you can top up online
3.or if you have a garanti bank account top up with garanti online banking but you will need a password to do this with garanti off garanti
4.you can add kontors by telephone with customer services but turkish bank card only accepted for this option

you have 90 days from day or registration/last top up before outgoing calls are barred if not topped up
180 days from registration/last top up before outgoing and incoming calls are barred
when you complete 210 days without top up you are cut off and loose the number for good

to register in bodrum ,go to the big turkcell shop down by the marina near marks & spencer ,they will do it for you there . they are shut sunday.

Thanks for the replies-great information. Is there an EXTRA Turkcell phone shop in Didim or will i have to go to another town to get this done?

I think i may have to also get the phone unlocked as it is on the ORANGE network, could i get this done in Turkey or is it best to have it done here, thanks.
