Fairly informative but not all accurate.

Doesn't matter, you can activate roaming from the U.K. by calling customer services or doing it online.

For Hazir Kart's (i.e. PAYG) the correct number is +90 212 444 0535

You can also use "sifre".

Most Turkish banks allow you to top up via internet banking, no additional passwords needed other than your normal security check codes.

Not correct - done it with a UK issued Mastercard.

Re: turkcell help needed
jf
i said in previous post you can activate roaming from uk but thought it would be easier for rik to do so while in turkey
as for banking i only have garanti so could only comment on garanti and when you log in you are requested to get an extra pin number sent to your mobile even though you are registered and set up for internet banking
also you do need a pin number from turkcell to top up on turkcells website i spoke to customer services and they have now issued this to recharge online if you log into online services is requests the superpassword/ pin
+90 212 444 0532 is the number which you go to for top up as i was advised by email and coppied and pasted it this is the number i spoke to customer services yesterday regarding the pin/ password
doesnt "sifre" mean password/ pin
as for paying with a uk card i was told on the telephone by customer services that it can only be done with a turkish card so i took it as the rule if you look at a previous post by biggles he was told the same

Re: turkcell help needed
cheeky chops is right ,when i spoke at great length to the girl at turkcell yedterday ,i asked can i use a uk credit card to top up,she said i not sure ,i will go and check ,after 3 or 4 mins she came back and told me no you must use a turkish credit card.so you can only go with what they tell you ,and i did post that she told me they can activate roaming for you but what good is that if you dont have a recharge [scratch card ] here with you in uk.i am very wary of using credit and try not to as i would rather use the scratch card that i brought back from turkey.

Re: turkcell help needed
Well, thats Turkey (and Turkcell) for you... until September this year we had a UK Mastercard(s) registered to a Hazir Kart account - and used it for emergency top ups more than once.
Filled in a security form at a Turkcell shop in Sirkeci and about two weeks later got a PIN. At the time, this was about the only way to top up a Hazir Kart outside Turkey. Haven't bothered setting a credit card up again as it's just as easy to do it by internet banking - and you don't get hit with currency conversion charges.
As regards topping up by internet banking, Finansbank (and, so I've been told, Akbank & IsBank) allow you to top up Avea, Vodafone & Turkcell without any additional codes (certainly for Turkcell) - I topped mine up on Monday and all I needed was the normal security code sent when making a payment. Some bank don't even require that if the payment is under a certain amount.

Can someone tell me can you still register your english mobile phone at Dalaman airport please,as i have been away more than 6 months, maybe i need to get a new sim,im on turkcell but hear so many diffreent stories,as last time i used my english phone and texting is 35pence back to uk and calls are !1.20 so it becomes expensive.Maybe i may be better off getting a new mobile in Kippa if you say they are that cheap,i havent been there yet, looking forward to going next week.

Re: turkcell help needed
I have read through this thread and am now thoroughly confused. I purchased a sim card in Turkey because I needed this in order to register for internet banking with Akbank. This all went through okay.
I brought a top up card back with me so that I can top up within the 90 days. I now need to do this. However, I don't know how. This thread was reading alright, until I came to the bit about registering my phone. I did not physically do this, but wonder if this happened automatically somehow.
In Turkey, I was told that I could top up by ringing 8090, putting in the scratchcard number and press #, and wait to hear the number of kontors (in Turkish). If this was correct, I then had to press 2, if not, press 1 and start again. This sounded fine, but I wonder if this would only work if I am in Turkey? This thread seemed to be easier, but now I am wondering about the registration bit.
If my phone is not registered, can I still do this from the UK?
Help please! Maisie
