Buying a 'pay as you go' SIM card in USA
Hi there,
This isn’t a query regarding Turkey, but I’m hoping someone can help me out? If a moderator wants to delete this post, I’ll understand.
I need some information on ‘pay as you go’ SIM cards for the US. Looks like I will be over there for most of January & February and I was thinking of getting a ‘paid as you go’ card so as family can contact me in an emergency. I have free calls to US landlines and cell phones from my house phone.
I know that a few years ago in the US cell phone users were charged whether they were receiving or making a call. I thought that the incoming call charges had been abolished on a number of networks, but it doesn’t look like it based on the articles I’ve read to date.
Anyone know of a ‘pay as you go’ US carrier that doesn’t charge for incoming calls?
Cheers,
TJD

Re: Buying a 'pay as you go' SIM card in USA
I asked about buying an American pay as you go phone for using while we were in the States earlier this year and my US-based relatives never heard of them. We just used the roaming facility on our Irish Vodafone and 02 mobiles. One of the Irish phones wouldn't work because it wasn't "tri-band" but the others were ok if a bit expensive to use. We were able to check on the 02 website which phone models were compatible. I think we had to register for US roaming before we travelled. Have a great trip.

Try this: http://www.sim4travel.com/ I have just purchased one for use in Turkey and Egypt. You can top up via the web or on the phone.

Thanks Guz1,
My O2 phone works OK in the US but the call charges are so high when I start texting and receiving even short calls. I'll keep looking and see if I can find payg card.

Cheers Andy,
Just had a quick look and this appears to assign me a UK mobile number which might work for me. Have you used it yet? Is it included in a standard UK mobile contract.
Update - I just called these folks, very helpful and friendly Customer Services, but costs 89pence per minute to receive a call in the US on one of these sims.
They allocate you a 0705 number so you need to check with your mobile service provider in the UK to see if your UK mobile company include this number in their inclusive minutes.
Terry.

I see what you mean not very USA friendly. I had a surf and found this website: http://www.keepspeaking.com/?gclid=...CFQ5FMAodTE1AHg
I think you have to be state side to use it but it may give you some info.
